  • Looks like the Mercury Villager minivan from the rear.

  • more hassle than its worth - 1998 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Like many of the other reviews, so many electrical issues, especially in the cold weather. seat warmers take forever vs other competitors. windows not functioning (bad switch) was the biggest pain in the a**. so many interior noises (buzz, squeaks, rattles & wind noise). VERY CHEAP looking interior. also had transmission issues. my job consists of entertaining and driving customers around and i am constantly embarassed with this vehicle. never again. MB just lost another customer.

I bought my 98 ML320 in July 2000 for $26,000, and since then Ive had nothing short of an outstanding vehicle. Ive had no problems at all with it. The engine is very reponsive and powerful, and the 5-speed driver- adaptive automatic transmission shifts beautifully. The Starmark service is great. Thereve been no problems with any electrical systems or switches, transmission, engine, or controls like others have claimed. Itll treat you good if you do the same. Take care of it and itll last you a long time.

Drives wonderfully, but in 1 year weve replaced the wiper motors twice, had the driver window fail, the electrical system short out and had a rupture to the power steering fluid hose. Starmark doesnt cover much of anything and the service department is second class compared to BMW, Audi & Acura.

  • Its been a good car. - 1998 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

We bought the car used with 64,000 miles on it. Its been a very good car, fairly reliable, but routine maintenance at the dealer has been expensive. Good gas mileage for its size, good cargo area for my needs. Now has 112,000 miles and motor still great. Never left me stranded, but my clock stopped working last year and instrument panel would have to replaced at a cost of $1,000, so not doing that. Comfortable for me, but not my husband who is tall... he doesnt have near enough leg room, and even getting into the vehicle is a tight fit for him. It needs about another 6-8" of leg room for people over 6 ft. Back window wiper is loud. I still have the original radio which is pretty useless.

  • One Great SUV - 1998 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The 1998 ML320 was a ground-breaking vehicle when it was first introduced and I had to have one. The early production models did have a few minor annoyances(transfer case, various squeeks and rattles) but reliability was never a concern. Overall this is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a rugged yet elegant SUV.

When i first saw the car i thight it was a minivan, but when i drove it the first time it was like a miracle. It was fast, and agile. People do tell me though that the car is more expensive than the BMW x5, but i wouldnt trade it for the world.

  • Love it despite electrical issues - 1998 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I love this car BUT I had electrical issues at 60K miles which lead to an $800 fix. Dealership told me the underside of the car was wet too frequently, but no off road usage and was garaged when not driven. Also have had to replace the drivers window switch 4 times - opened 4 times a day every day for tolls, but my Honda did fine with the same drive.
