Overview & Reviews
Though it might not look different, the E-Class receives a substantial freshening for 2000, with an entirely new front end and a revised interior. Stability control, a Touch Shift automanual transmission, and side airbags for all outboard seating positions are now standard. A multifunction steering wheel debuts, and E430 models can be equipped with 4matic all-wheel drive. TeleAid, a cellular emergency service, is standard and the confounding COMAND system is optional. For 2000, free maintenance is provided for the duration of the warranty period. The E300 turbodiesel model has been dropped. Other changes are limited to minor cosmetic and functional upgrades.
- Distinctive good looks, lots of standard and optional safety equipment, free maintenance for duration of warranty, available all-wheel drive, refined powertrains, rock-solid engineering.
- Stately rather than sporty, gimmicky COMAND system option.

Lemon 2000 E430 - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By dataminer - December 7 - 2:00 amThis has been the worst vehicle for warranty repairs. I have had both outside mirrors replaced, one for a crack that appeared during the first Wisconsin winter and the second for a bad motor. I have had a water pump, a mass air flow sensor, an oxygen sensor, a fuel tank sensor, a window motor, a radiator bracket, both front end tie rods, the drivers seat leather cover replaced, and finally the passenger side visor (the automatic vanity mirror switch failed) replaced.

Never again with RBM of Atlanta - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Atlanta E320 - December 1 - 2:00 amWay too many electrical problems and repeat visits to the selling dealership to continually repeat repairs and fix new problems arising from related repairs.

Not buying MB again any time soon - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Stew L - July 2 - 7:03 amWe have 2000 E430 and have about 60,000 miles on it. So far, we had to spend over $9,000 on repairs ranging from A/C to differential leaks! It is a well designed and good looking car but the MBs quality is sub-par. Unless MB improves the quality, we wont be touching another MB for a long long time.

This is not your parents car - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Steven Kendrick - May 11 - 10:00 amWhen this car is in warranty, everybody smiles and loves you. When this car is out of warranty, you find out the previous smiles were the after the laughs. This car had issues under warranty and the dealer was happy to fix them and get you on your way. The NAv/Radio started to go but since it had not passed the point of no return, they would not replace it. I could tell other things started to go before the car got out of warranty and it was not until I crossed that warranty mileage marker all hell broke loose. At that point, Murphys Law took affect. The good side: the car drove like a dream, in the daylight. Go rent the movie "It Takes Two" (1988) when the guy builds his dream car.

Too familiar with the service department - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By SMB - January 29 - 9:50 amLike others, we bought the car thinking wed keep it for a long time. After 6 years and many, many trips to the dealer we are saying bye to the Benz. Thankfully, the warranty covered replacement of the entire dashboard assembly, brakes, phone, hatch and various other electrical issues. Unfortunately, post-warranty I was stuck with the bill for the struts, rotors, hatch (again) and a new $100 key! Like others, its burning oil at a rapid pace. The car drives well, is very stable and eats up highway miles. Performance in the snow is fantastic - better than our Land Rover! Cargo/people hauling space is great.

e320 plain&fancy - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By timfrank - June 11 - 2:00 amSturdy and elegant ,if staid, this car surprises me in its acceleration and quiet manners. It may be only a V6 but it really GOES. The transmission is the smoothest I have ever seen.

Safe and fun - great car - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By jwgowdy - December 18 - 12:06 amWe Starmarked this car when we bought it just to be safe, but havent had to use it more than once (cracked intake hose - replaced with no problems). Dealer has been outstanding. This car is very comfy and very safe - Im very pleased my wife and child spend time here. Factory Continentals stink, but thats a minor issue. Overall, were pleased. This is our second MB, and Ill continue to drive them as long as they keep the faith.

Well built tank - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By chuck shick - December 16 - 11:50 pmThis is my third benz but first of the 21st century. I stayed away after hearing about issues after the DM/Chrysler merge, but was convinced by my mechanic that the w210 chassis are well constructed and reliable vehicles. While I still own my classic MBs, this is a fine vehicle with modern amenities like powerful A/C, ventilated seats, side curtain airbags. Powerful V6, 4matic, stability and traction control make this an all weather warrior. Car is new to me so I will report back later on reliability.
