This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, the E-Class wagon benefits from the same full redesign the sedan received last year. A V8-powered version of the wagon is available this year and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is optional on both sedans and wagons. Finally, the DVD-based navigation system, which was delayed for 2003, is on the options list this year.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, brakes lack progressive feel.

  • Great Drive - Poor Electronics - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The E500 is a fun car to drive and it lives up to all the superlatives. However, the audio, phone, and electronic systems are extremely poor and unreliable. The audio system has a mind of its own, the integrated phone system spent more time in the shop than in use, and false warning indications have been common. As a result, I will never buy another MB.

Great car and amazingly fun to drive. We love the extra interior room without having to drive an SUV. What a nice change after 12 Years of SUVs. Reliable and sticks right to the road even on snow (we have AWD option). This one is a keeper.

  • Presets in Steering wheel - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I cannot believe the IDIOTS at the top of Mercedes, they made a decision that someone should be fired for! The comfort steering wheel is ANYTHING but that. The Sterio arrows in steering wheel just Scan the stations and do NOT skip to your presets as THEY SHOULD! The dealer said they changed this for this years model - ARE THEY NUTS!!! Im So upset that I spent 70K & I also have to hold the preset for Memorie seating too instead of a One touch like the Caddys. Really silly stuff that could have been great! SHAME to the executives making BONE HEAD decisions.

  • Fulfilled Expectations - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I purchased a 2004 E500 4matic last June. it was built for me to my specs. I did not get the nav system and other electronic bells and whistles, but ordered nearly everything else including the Sport and the Winter Package. I had an 84 4Matic which was fraught with trouble. Transfer cases going every 6000 miles. Mercedes was terrific about dealing with this even after warranty, but it sent me to Audi as my next car. Convinced that the new E Class and the four wheel systems had been revisited, I ordered one. Performance, handling, comfort, all the things that matter are superb. The car is mechanically flawless so far. Incredible in Colorados snowy and high altitude driving conditions.

  • Beware of Mercedes Warranty - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I bought a new (2004) E320 Sedan with Appearance and Luxury packages. Its very stylish but has been in the shop way too often. The air conditioning (horrible smell) which Mercedes was reluctant to correct first time stunk. Mercedes - simply flushing the system does not work - it needs to be replaced. Worse was to follow - the Mercedes Dealership damaged my computer during yet another visit to the shop (brakes recall) and it was replaced with a used part. Yes, a USED PART on a new car. I called Mercedes USA and was referred me to my new car warranty which gives them the option to do just that - replace parts with used or reconditioned ones. How cheap can you get Mercedes?

  • Awesome, but no improvement over previous - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Great car. Feels very solid and tank like as should any Mercedes. I should advise any interested buyers to highly consider the more expensive E500 wagon cause 221 hp isnt going to keep this two ton wagon up to speed with any Porsches. All in all a still excellent buy (not cheap though). My previous 2000 E320 wagon looked almost exactly the same even though there was a redesign last year. Very comfortable and relaxing to drive for long and quick trips. navigation system isnt that complicating, ride quality is amazing, and 4MATIC works great in foul weather. My rear window just randomly stopped functioning but other than that reliability has been decent. I timed a 0-60 run of about 8 seconds

  • Poor Quality Mercedes - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  • E-320 4-matic - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Excellent vehicle! Fund to drive. V6 engine is very powerful - impressive accelleration. Great gas mileage - 22 mpg commuting. Handling is remarkable - best Ive ever driven. Sticks to any curve in the road. Sure-footed in snow - 4-matic really works! Huge trunk with well-designed storage. Very legible, easy to read gages and displays (including the radio).

  • So far so good! - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is my first MB (2004 E320)and it is a very nice car that handles extremely well, looks like it was engineered and put together well and looks good. Handles like I would imagine a German car should handle. After reading owners manual I was a bit dissapointed to find out that I couldnt use my cell phone without an external antenna (could interfere with electronics). But I may opt for the $2000 phone. Ill post more feed back as I put a few more miles on this car. So far a great car!
