This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, the E-Class wagon benefits from the same full redesign the sedan received last year. A V8-powered version of the wagon is available this year and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is optional on both sedans and wagons. Finally, the DVD-based navigation system, which was delayed for 2003, is on the options list this year.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, brakes lack progressive feel.

  • Great car - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

For the money you cant go wrong. The car is outrageously fast. The ride is smooth. Everything on the interior is in its proper place. The handling is very good on or off the track. The fuel economy is good on the highway, but low in the city. So far no mechanical problems. The car is a gem.

  • better than 03 - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I had an 03 and it had many problems. I decided to get the 04 so I could get gps and this car is solid. Everything works well, and the car has a good amount of power.

  • Benz in Trouble - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The E class, although elegant, beautifull and world class, has been very disappointing. Reliability, simply stinks! Performance is unpredictible and truck like at times. This is the E5004matic, with the adjustable/adaptive suspension that is at the sport II mode is worse than my replaced Acura MDX 2004. Comfort is subjective, however, the level of noise inside the car is a Ford F150 on a train crossing. The Hydro nonsense brakes are the worst Ive had on a car, unpredictible, you simply do not have a clue everytime you want to stop how much pressure you should be applying. The car sticker is 70grand+. That is the problem?! for that much cash EVERY car in its class is a better one?

  • Sporty and Luxury together - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

So far, so good. I have most all of the available options. I am not disappointed. The car is fun to drive, excellent handling with luxurious interior.

Nanananana... Ive got one & the rest of the world is jealous. This is the real zoom zoom. Fastest car Ive ever driven. Passengers noice the speed. Steering is as good as an EVO. Acceleration is somewhat violent and obnoxious as is the speed leveling, but still worth the effort & the money.

Performance, especially acceleration is unmatched. Road noise almost non- existant. Interior controls are intuitive and properly placed. Styling continues to turn heads

  • Youre The Top - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

As Cole Porter said, Youre The Top. As a long time BMW and more recently Mercedes-Benz owner, I have to say this car is the Top. Since I purchased my E500 in December its behavious has been impecable. Problems to date - none. This car replaced a 2000 E430 and totally out classes it in every way. It also blows away my most recent BMW 5 Series. No, its not quite as agile as the 5, but I live in Florida now and the mountain roads I used to play on aare mostly a thing of the past. Frankly, the superior accomodations of the E more than make up for it. If you want a car that does everything right, then get this car. Remember - you get what you pay for!

  • 121,000 miles later... - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

... our 2004 E320 4Matic is still running like a champ! No significant mechanical issues and the car has never left us stranded. We keep it in the garage (our 2015 GLK350 gets the carport parking) and keep up on all the maintenance religiously. Get the E500 if you want a rocketship. Were happy with the trusty M112 V6 engine. Enough power for most applications yet provides decent fuel mileage. Its a much more desirable engine than the dreaded M272 in the 2006 - 2009 E350 that was prone to balance shaft failures (theres even a class action suit against Mercedes for this now). Handling is decent for a wagon but eats tires.

  • Great Wagon but the Transmission. - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Purchased this for my wife with only 20k 4-years ago and the car has been great except the transmission. The 722.6 transmission was problem in the older E320 and still is. The TCU connector seal failed which Mercedes had an updated part but then in leaked later on also. Read some forums and Im not alone. Even the new 722.9 Transmissions are having issues. I have owned 4 Mercedes and all the transmissions have had issues.
