Overview & Reviews
For 2004, the E-Class wagon benefits from the same full redesign the sedan received last year. A V8-powered version of the wagon is available this year and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is optional on both sedans and wagons. Finally, the DVD-based navigation system, which was delayed for 2003, is on the options list this year.
- Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
- More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, brakes lack progressive feel.

too many gadgets too little service IQ - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By flatout - May 24 - 10:00 amGreat Car, poorly built. The engine is strong, very strong but its pushing a rolling sevice call. Dealership is unable to deal with complex technical problems and simple drivetrain issues.

Does not live up to its name - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Tom Williams - January 5 - 2:30 amThis is a great car when it works, but we have had tons of suspension, braking and electrical problems. Fixing anything costs at least an arm and a leg. This is my very last Benz. German engineering just means "expensive to fix".

Back to BMW - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By HB - February 27 - 2:30 pmHow about 6 flat tires in 14 months!?! Have not had 6 flats in 30 years of driving. Low profile tires cant handle any kind of pothole. Major reliability problem. Also - quirkiness of accelration and braking makes driving experience less enjoyable. Strange buzzing and vibration from various motors also hurts the experience. Too many weird characteristics for a $60k+ dream car. Im selling and buying a Bimmer.

A very disappointing car - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Frustrated Owner - September 27 - 2:00 amI bought this car on Mercedes reputation of quality. It turns out that it is the worst car I have ever owned. It has been in the shop 3 times and I have only owned the car 3 months! Even after all that time in the shop the car is still not fixed. The electrical systems on these cars is a disaster. DO YOUR RESEARCH before buying this car. Check the online forums dedicated to the E class cars and see what real owners are saying about their cars and how Mercedes is treating their customers - it is not a pretty picture!

Great car, poor reliability - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By bubu - April 9 - 9:20 amThis is a great car - when it runs. The engine is very strong but the electrical system is very unreliable. You will get to know the MB service dept. well. Moreover, this is a fancy car and many mechanics are not trained to fix its problems. Find a good mechanic and get the extended warranty!

How could mercedes benz let this happen. - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Jack Dooley - August 8 - 2:00 amThe only good thing about this car is the comfort factor. Everything else seems to be below average. I now know I would have been better off with a BMW, Lexus, or Acura. This will be the last MB for me. The build quality has dropped to much in recent years.

Faulty Electrical - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Beau - May 18 - 3:03 amThe car has been in the service department to replace control unit for radio. Problem continued and another electrical part was the problem. Cost to repair is excessive. Also the remote door locks failed and a sensor for hood latch failed. Fun car to drive when it it not in repair shop.

Electrical nightmare - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Michael Drake - November 18 - 4:50 amCar has been and electrical and mechanical nightmare. Dealer had car for almost 2 months trying to fix charging problem. Software upgrades and failures galore. The dealer has been fine, but the overall quaility is terrible. I have owned Mercedes for over 20 years, and this thing is a lemon.
