This Year's Model Updates:

The MPV has been completely redesigned from top to bottom. Several unique features, like hinged rear doors and all-wheel drive, have disappeared. At the same time, items like roll-down windows in the sliding doors and tailgate seating in the third-row seats certify the MPV as a standout vehicle.

Pros:
  • Some innovative features, excellent road feel and driving position, optional sound system rocks.
Cons:
  • Weak and unrefined drivetrain, not as roomy as Grand Caravan, Odyssey or Windstar.

Our van is on its third computer, and second transmission, and only has 60,000 miles! We look forward to getting rid of it! Dont forget, its still a Ford!

I feel so badly when I read about the horror stories of other owners because we have been beyond happy with our van! We purchased it new in 2000 and have had nothing but normal maintenance. The only thing that has now happened twice is that the drivers side sliding door handle has broken. Dont understand this, but if thats the only problem weve had in 10 years, Im thrilled! We are at 145,000 miles and hope to continue for at least another 50,000?

First time minivan owner. I really like the flexibility of the seats. I threw a party for my 5 year old and had to borrow chairs from my dad. I removed the 2 second row seats and folded down the 3rd row seat. I was able to haul 50 plastic stacking chairs, 2 six foot plastic tables, 1 large ice cooler, and 8 steam pan holders. Removable seats were fairly light. If you are offered one for under $10,000 with less than 70K miles then go for it!

This is my 2nd car/van, & the 1st one I bought new. Maybe because the MPV is smaller; it handles the road a bit more stable than the other two minivans I tested. I love the flexibility of the 2nd & 3rd row seats arrangement as well as the 2nd row window that actually opens, which other car company copy in their later models. MPV does have its weakness in horsepower & torque (especially when you turn on the a/c). Another problem is the rear wiper spring is very weak; may break when car wash. I hated the transmission for its jerkiness. In terms of up keep of the vehicle, it actually cost me less than my brothers Honda Odyssey (5 years running), which he later traded in for a Sienna last year.

I bought this van from a private seller in 05 with 72,000 miles on it. My van now has 173,000 we have routinely towed an 18 ft Ski boat with no problem except when the ramp is wet. Get out grab the cooler and kids push hard HA HA! No major issues what soever even towed a popup trailer to Tennessee through Blue Ridge Mountains.

I like the minivan, its very cute and its like having a car!!!! and the rear windows go down which is a plus!!! the only thing that im gonna say about this van is that its slow especially up hills, and pick up on the highway is terrible, and the cup holders are just a nono! and could mazda had made bigger tires!!!!!!!!! But the kiddies love it

The only problem I had was the Alernator went out at 61000 miles.

  • I will never buy another Mazda - 2000 Mazda MPV

I have taken my Mazda to the dealer 3 times because it will not keep running when it is cold.Gave the dealer $300.00 to fix it and it is still broken - now they want another $250.00 to replace a part that they think may be bad. And the AC has died ever summer. And it cost about $200.00 every summer to get it fixed. I custom ordered it from the dealer new in 2000.

  • MPV, a best kept secret - 2000 Mazda MPV

Absolutely no problems after 3 1/2 years and 28,000 miles. Used mainly for trips but very capable for city traffic and parking. The small (2.5 l) 6 engine is just fine unless you love to play Le Mans racer. This is not a minivan for macho drivers.
