Overview & Reviews
The MPV has been completely redesigned from top to bottom. Several unique features, like hinged rear doors and all-wheel drive, have disappeared. At the same time, items like roll-down windows in the sliding doors and tailgate seating in the third-row seats certify the MPV as a standout vehicle.
- Some innovative features, excellent road feel and driving position, optional sound system rocks.
- Weak and unrefined drivetrain, not as roomy as Grand Caravan, Odyssey or Windstar.

A Dissappointment - 2000 Mazda MPV
By lindseyg2324 - May 14 - 9:40 amWe bought our MPV used about 1 yr ago. We bought it knowing the trans drove rough, but thought it would get us through what we needed it to. The previous owners seemed to have no issues with it. Within 3 months the radiator went out. Replaced it right away. 6 months later, engine heads went out. Due to the config. of the engine, it is a very timely & costly repair, in total around 48 hrs. My husband took on the task to save $. It took us 8 months to get that finished. 1 day after the engine was done, the trans finally went out. Replaced it. I dont have faith that this car will last much longer. Sad that its not working out. Husband is determined to make it last after working so hard.

Problems, problems, problems! - 2000 Mazda MPV
By PAH - August 14 - 10:00 amI have had nothing but problems with my van from the check engine light constantly coming on and off (And it isnt because of the gas cap which has been replaced as well as the entire fuel line), replacing tires 4 times (!) and no one can tell me why, the passenger back door malfunctions, the seats are uncomfortable on long trips, and the Mazda dealership has been difficult to deal with. I cant wait to unload this thing!

Nice Minivan - 2000 Mazda MPV
By Bad Dog - July 31 - 10:00 amI am not a big fan of minivans. But as minivans go, this one is ok. It was well designed with some nice features that werent common when this was new (dual sliding passenger doors with electric windows, slide over middle seat, back seat folds down into the floor or folds back to make a tailgate seat, etc). The stereo system is nice for a factory stereo too. It has run well and we have had no problems with it at all. I would highly recommend the MPV ... if you HAVE to have a minivan.

Like it, but disappointed - 2000 Mazda MPV
By BobK - June 30 - 6:23 pmIve had way too many minor and medium level problems, although no major problems yet. Both front door actuators have failed, as has the drivers window motor. All have failed where theres a metal to plastic gear meshing. The CD changer jams and has to be removed and unjammed every 3-4 months. The latch for the visor mirror broke so the mirror hangs open if the visor is down. Plastic covers for inside door lights have fallen off because the plastic tabs broke.

Dont waste your money buying used - 2000 Mazda MPV
By Ron - May 22 - 7:50 amPurchased in Nov. 2001 as a used vehicle and have had no real mechanical issues to complain about. It has performed well over the last six years. The biggest complaint I have is the corrosion issue. I first noticed a problem around the rear wheel well. Then around the edges of the doors. The hood has now perforated at the front edge and the paint is bubbling along that same edge. On the underside of the hood a chunk 4"x3" came off when I closed the hood. The rubber seal (to keep water out) no longer provides a seal because there is nothing for it to attached to. Buyer beware if you purchase this van you will have a rust bucket. Beware!!!

Mazda MPV - 5years Old - 2000 Mazda MPV
By EMSKLB - March 7 - 3:43 pmWhile I was happy with the MPV early on, it appears things are beginning to fail at the 5 year and 90,000 mile mark.

This Van is the WORST EVER! - 2000 Mazda MPV
By Sue - April 4 - 7:50 amThis vehicle is the worst car I have ever owned. We have had to replace the starter, alternator twice, 2 batteries, ABS sensors, drivers side motor that operates the windows, brackets that hold the rear gate up when open, heating/cooling pipes, and 3 transmissions. Most of which has left us with no vehicle while repairs are being done, and no offer to pay for a rental, and note that most repairs take a minimum of 2 days. Some longer as parts have to be ordered from China or Japan or someplace like that. This is the worst experience EVER! Also note that this is our only vehicle and we have 4 children who all involved in activities, not to mention the things that must be done.

Transmission Failed - 2000 Mazda MPV
By MPV Owner - June 7 - 11:06 pmI have been driving this car since the start of 2001. Overall it has been solid and has required only basic or required minimal repairs... until now. At only 80,000 miles the transmission has completely failed. This will cost over $3,000 to repair, more than 1/2 the value of the car. Mechanics seem surprised, but say it is a closed system, and if it goes... well it just goes. This is a real bummer and has really turned me off on this car.

Dont buy a Mazda. Buy American. - 2000 Mazda MPV
By TinaJones - May 7 - 5:43 amWhen we bought the Mazda, we thought it was like a Toyota. Will keep running and running. Wrong, wrong, wrong! We have had it towed to a local garage because it just would not start. The garage tried to just get a design for the motor so they could make sure everything was where it was supposed to be. Mazda would send them a design if they would pay $169.00. Had it towed to a dealership, thought it was fixed. Ran hot on us when we went out of town for my sons state track meet. It was 100 degrees and when the mazdas run hot, the air does not work. It is not recommended for the south. We did not even make it home, our other son had to come and get us 30 miles away from our home.
