This Year's Model Updates:

The MPV has been completely redesigned from top to bottom. Several unique features, like hinged rear doors and all-wheel drive, have disappeared. At the same time, items like roll-down windows in the sliding doors and tailgate seating in the third-row seats certify the MPV as a standout vehicle.

Pros:
  • Some innovative features, excellent road feel and driving position, optional sound system rocks.
Cons:
  • Weak and unrefined drivetrain, not as roomy as Grand Caravan, Odyssey or Windstar.

  • Not Perfect, But still the best - 2000 Mazda MPV

Original owner of the van. After almost two years I have managed to pile up 38k easy miles. Power/Transmission: The engine, a Ford Duratec 2.5L V6, has been very reliable, a little noisey and slightly underpowered. Handling/Ride: Better than most cars, Very satisfying! Wind noise is a little elevated at highway speed but not terrible. Versatility: Flip under third row seat is AWESOME! In my opinion, a must have. This lets you carry ALL your stuff to Grandma and Grandpas and still haul the grand parents around when you get there. Bottom Line: Still happy with my purchase.

After 112,000 miles only a few major repairs - one door actuator and cracked exhaust manifold. Lots of great features in the van, especially for the time. Really like the fold flat rear seat. No problems with CD or moonroof. Great stereo. Biggest disappointment is the lack of power. The transmission kicks and the whole car jumps (not to move fast, just jumps). Its been a good dependable car and with 23/24 mpg on the highway not bad for a van.

  • Problems after 6 years - 2000 Mazda MPV
    By -

Bought this van new. No problems. Changed oil, rotated tires, purchased new tires as needed. Rear heater was warranty work. At 6 1/2 years old 100,000 + the check engine light comes on. Transmission hasnt failed yet, but were wondering, thought Mazda was more reliable than this. Our 1st Mazda was about 9 years old, no mechanical when we traded for larger van. I want to decide when I trade, not have mechanical failure decide for me!

  • Not Bad - 2000 Mazda MPV

Good Van. It has provided a lot of comfort over long hauls (weve done roughly 15K miles per year). The MPG has worked out to be in the low 20s and requires nothing outside of regular maint. All-in-all, it has proved to be a good van.

  • Great LIttle Minivan (As Minivans Go) - 2000 Mazda MPV
    By -

I really didnt want to get a minivan, but this is a nice little minivan if you have to have one. It looks pretty sharp, has plenty of zip, the stereo rocks out nicely, and it has nice features ... many of which werent available on other minivans when I bought this one.

  • door lock actuators fail a lot NO Recall - 2000 Mazda MPV
    By -

Good overall van, BUT be ready to spend $150 plus for the door lock actuators when they fail about every two years. This is the price for the PART ONLY for each door. This van we have has both front door actuators that have failed within weeks of each other in 2003. Should be a recall item as MANY others have this same problem, but Mazda does NOTHING. Be warned! Oh if you have the dealer do the work, you are looking at $350 P&L and up per door!

  • Great van for the money - 2000 Mazda MPV
    By -

Bought the van almost 8 years ago and have had only a few issues. Alternator need replacement. Rear hatch struts failed and coolant lines to rear leaked but both were recall items (sure hurt when the hatch slammed onto my head and knocked me to the ground). Ive got 165,000 kms on it now and it is rusting like crazy...that is my only real complaint other than the not so great gas mileage and the fact that the van is so boring.

  • Good overall minivan - 2000 Mazda MPV

First family minivan has been a good one. This van purchased at 88K needed a front axle, and minor items up to 115K and still happy. Runs great and been reliable.

  • Its a good van - 2000 Mazda MPV
    By -

Purchased pre-owned with about 31k miles on it, one owner. Have put about 11k on it so far and have had no problems other than a burnt out turn signal bulb. Our work has Dodge Caravans, and I do admit they are smoother riding vans. However, for a personal vehicle, I value reliablity and dependability, and so far the MPV has not let me down. Its a lot of van for the money and I think it will last many miles.

  • Favourite Van of its Era.. - 2000 Mazda MPV
    By -

Bought the van brand new in 2000, 13 years later and its still running strong with 230,000kms... Recently with my abuse ( I run it around 4 - 5000kms a month) its started giving minor problems such as the alternator and stabilizer links, but that is expected of a car of its age. Gas milaege is great compared to other vans, awesome people hauler, and great flexibility with the seats. Fun to drive.
