Overview & Reviews
The MPV has been completely redesigned from top to bottom. Several unique features, like hinged rear doors and all-wheel drive, have disappeared. At the same time, items like roll-down windows in the sliding doors and tailgate seating in the third-row seats certify the MPV as a standout vehicle.
- Some innovative features, excellent road feel and driving position, optional sound system rocks.
- Weak and unrefined drivetrain, not as roomy as Grand Caravan, Odyssey or Windstar.

Unhappy Ride - 2000 Mazda MPV
By walterlee - June 20 - 2:00 amBought this MPV (2000 model)after putting 160,000 miles on a 1990 MPV- I liked both ride and durability of the 1990 better than the 2000!! Transmission jumpy, engine warning light goes on and off without reason, small socket wrench was found inside engine compartment- obviously left behind at the assembly plant- and the ride is stiff and uncomfortable.

MPV great van bad cupholder - 2000 Mazda MPV
By KD2788 - June 6 - 2:00 amThis is a great van. Drives like a car but packs like a truck. The engine is a little under powered (changed to a 3.0 5 speed auto in 2002) but itll still get up and go if needed. The seating is comfortable and supportive. Endless possibilities for seatiing. I get about 22 mpg on mine, which isnt too bad, as far as vans go.

Dont waste your money buying used - 2000 Mazda MPV
By Ron - May 22 - 7:50 amPurchased in Nov. 2001 as a used vehicle and have had no real mechanical issues to complain about. It has performed well over the last six years. The biggest complaint I have is the corrosion issue. I first noticed a problem around the rear wheel well. Then around the edges of the doors. The hood has now perforated at the front edge and the paint is bubbling along that same edge. On the underside of the hood a chunk 4"x3" came off when I closed the hood. The rubber seal (to keep water out) no longer provides a seal because there is nothing for it to attached to. Buyer beware if you purchase this van you will have a rust bucket. Beware!!!

Wanted to Try a Mini Van - 2000 Mazda MPV
By jaenderby - May 7 - 10:00 amI really like the looks and the size of my MPV. However, the pick up is slow and the rear windows make a funny wind tunnel noise. My closest dealer, Cook Mazda is unresponsive. My previous car was a Ford Taurus with over 162,000 miles and I felt the dealerships were superior to Mazda. Dont believe everything they tell you about foreign cars.

Great Van - 2000 Mazda MPV
By Jake - April 25 - 2:13 pmVan is very dependable. After 140K miles, still runs great. Issues are sluggish engine, cheap sliding door handles (both broke, one side twice). Only maintenance is shocks/struts, air filter and fluid changes. Check engine light for air intake sensor but I never fixed it and never and had issues after 60k miles!

Great family hauler - 2000 Mazda MPV
By mrf - March 31 - 2:00 amThis is a great van. Reliable, comfortable and not huge. Car-like handling and decent mileage (get 23 mpg on highway trips). Van has been excellent in build qulaity and reliability, and we have a very early-production model (April of 1999). Lots of folks gripe about the power...my opinion is that a minivan is not a hot rod, so it has been more than adequate. Besides, the 2002 models get a larger engine.

Perfect size for new parents - 2000 Mazda MPV
By GOOD USED VALUE - March 2 - 10:00 amLove the ride, comfort and ease of parking. Reliability good, despite several recalls/service bulletins. Good rebates on new vehicles, but lower than average resale means there are some real bargains out there on used.

It works for me! - 2000 Mazda MPV
By EJH - February 1 - 10:00 amI have owned this car for 4 years and have only had to do routine maintenance and I recently replaced the tires. I love the visibility and although the power is not great, Im not pulling any heavy loads so its perfectly adequate for my daily commute.

2000 MPV - 2000 Mazda MPV
By okiebaird - September 18 - 2:00 amMy mpv has been great I have driven almost 50,000 miles in the last 20 months and have not had any trouble or problems. It would be nice however to have a few more horsepower to drive through the Colorado rockies. All things considered it took to the mountains fairly well, but alittle more power would be nice.

I like it - 2000 Mazda MPV
By NYer - July 18 - 1:20 pmIts a nice looking car, fun to drive, roomy enough for 7 people. My problem is that I had to change all shocks and front tires after less than 33k miles.
