This Year's Model Updates:

Not much changes on Mazda's minivan. Keyless entry is standard on MPV LX, and the AM/FM/CD/cassette audio system is standard on LX and ES models. Child safety-seat anchors have been added to all MPV models, as have new exterior color choices. The 2.5-liter V6 engine now complies with NLEV emissions standards.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, versatile seating configurations, sharp exterior styling, agile handling, good visibility.
Cons:
  • Weedy engine, unimpressive interior materials, no traction control available, limited maximum cargo capacity.

  • Greatest Mini Van on Market for all - 2001 Mazda MPV

I worried about the small v6 engine and the reveiws, but I dont see the issue. Looks great! Drives Excellently! The leather seats are really comfortable. Im just back from a 17 hour 1100 mile trip and not once did my back feel it. In addition, I drove it in the mountains of Tennesee & Kentucky with little effort on the engine. It is NOT under powered at all. The interior style is very up scale compared to many of the "BEST" rated vans especially the Honda. With the CReports ratings at very high. Buy a ES MPV with no worries. You are smart to do so, and will get the best van on the road period.

Engine knocking caused by rocker arm shaft design. Transmission shift is delayed. radio broke early. Dont buy one!

I think that Mazda has made an excellent minivan. My only problems with it were minor sample defects that the dealer fixed satisfactorily. I think that it has appropriate power, but I wish it would get better mileage. (It is a trade-off!)

  • Not a bad van - 2001 Mazda MPV

No major problems in nearly three years. Dealer service is good. The MPV is not a street racer but it gets around OK in the flatlands of the southeast. Gas mileage is not that good.

Ive been very happy with my MPV purchase. It has served me and my family well on long road trips. Yhe fold down 3rd seat and power rear window really come in handy and I have not had one major or minor repair in the last 3 years. I would recommend this vehicle.

  • Good for first 4-5 years - 2001 Mazda MPV

This is not a van you want to buy when you have other choices like Odyssey and Sienna. the plus point is it drives nice - more like a sedan. The first 4-5 years were almost trouble free with few niggles. From then on too many problems. Recently, it wont start and had to be towed and found out that the engine froze because there was no oil ! The oil is changed on time and there is no leak. How did the oil disappear in 3 months - is a mystery !!! in winters of Chicago, the sliding doors always get stuck and you cannot open it! If you are buying new one, sell it after three years. If you are buying old one, I will look elsewhere.

  • Small yet roomy, Sporty yet functional - 2001 Mazda MPV

Wed been looking for a new car for a while. Was looking at the 2002 MPV, but couldnt afford the sticker for the ES. Wanted all the extras, so compromised the 2002 and got the ES 2001 new loaded with the extras I wanted at a price I could manage. (Anything was an improvement over my 4 Cylinder 4-door grandam.) Really needed something larger for a family of five, car seats and stroller. It does the trick nicely. The kids can pick and choose where they like to sit and I can separate them easily. I like the well in the back for groceries when the seat is up. Fun to drive. Not just another mini van.

Have had the vehicle now for 4 years. We have had very few problems with it. Overall, its quiet, responsive, and fun to drive. Been in other vans, and this is miles ahead of the others. No regrets!

I bought my van used and have had it for about 1 yr now. van is ok but my wife would like it to have the power slide doors and little stonger engine. My advice buy a Honda if you got the money and can find one, if not make the mazda your second choice

  • Our best vehicle ever - 2001 Mazda MPV

Mazda MPV was $10k cheaper then Honda. We bought it and never regret it. Oil, brakes, battery and tires those are four things I ever touched. Never failed. Nothing. Nada. Just put a gas and drive. 120k miles and still driving like it just been taken from a dealers lot. We raised 2 of our kids with this car. We have been to 14 states with our MPV. Best minivan ever.
