Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

It is great car, and fun to drive. It is really strong, and you could rather any other cars with it. The problem that it is going too fast, so you could not feel the actual speed yor are going on, so you think you are going 20 when you are really going 50, so in the curves, you think you will roll over, and that is not something to be ashamed about your Jeep.

I have had other Jeeps out there and this one is the first one that ever fell apart so fast out of the three. Unlike other Jeeps I had I dont trust the 4by system in this Jeep. It came with a Select Trac that does get me stuck at times unless you like to creep in low! The ABS light comes one with long trips resulting in a loss of power brakes and steering! It does have its up and downs and right now its and an all time low. I would probally have gave this Jeep a better rating if I had bought it brand new. I bought it 4 yrs old w/ 100k! I will say this truck has tried to hold up with me. Ive put 25k in 9 months until it died!

This SUV was a gem. Not a single problem until 100,000 miles and that was only minor. Very capable off-road performance as well.

A few minor problems in the beginning. But dealership handled it and havent had any problems since. Never had a single brake problem like everyone else talks about. As a matter of fact i have only put one set of front brakes on in 88000 miles and no rear brakes yet. Handling is key in this vehicle, i would put it up against any other suv on the market for cornering, and believe me i have driven nearly everything out there in its price range.

I inherited my Jeep as a gift, it had 210,000 miles on it and everything was still original. Its an inline 6 limited now it has 240,000 miles on it and only the fuel pump and the radiator have been replaced everything else is still good. As many people say move the spare tire! Its annoying Ive seen a few grand Cherokees where the spare is mounted on the liftgate like any other SUV and the rear window doesnt open other than those two things its awesome good power and ride, comfortable Im definitely getting another Jeep in the future so is the girlfriend

Initial evaluation is superb. Well- built; handles and rides great.

  • Big hit on depreciation - $15,000 1 year - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Good ride over 2004. Think Edmunds is wrong about the back seat being cramped - its better then 2004 and adequate. They all should still have the 4x4 high and low - not just on demand 4x4. Without the high/low command track its not really a Jeep just a 4 wheel drive with limited off road ability. The rear cargo area height is lousy, my dogs can stand but rub the head liner in this Jeep, in the other version they could stand and not rub the headliner and I had better visibility. The dogs are 26 and 28 inches tall on all fours. I AM NOT GOING TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE TRADE IN VALUE HAS DEPRECIATED over $15,000 in one year; the vehicle is loaded listed for $34,400 and its value is $16K.

This is the first jeep iv ever owned, and so far its lived up to its hype. bought it at 68,000 and its currently at 70,000. Only problem Ive ever had was the first week when my check engine light came on, but a free O2 sensor from the dealership fixed that. The powerful V8 makes it one of the fastest SUVs on the road, even after over 10 years. Although the interior colors arent my favorite, its unique and never see anything like it. Seats are very comfortable in the front, in the back its a different story, with very little leg room.
