Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Review of My Jeep after 1 year owned - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My personal experience has been very good. This is the first Jeep that Ive owned. The Jeep has been around in my family for years and many of my friends have Jeeps as well. Ive never owned a vehicle so great off-road. I have no trouble in the toughest snow/ice, through streams, on unpaved back roads & trails. Recently I experienced a problem where the Jeep would not shift out of 2nd gear, the dealer updated the computer & I havent had a problem since, also, the power window motors when bad & were replaced around 22,000 miles, I am currently at 33,500 miles. I use full synthetic oil & a fuel additive & get about 17.4 MPG city, 21.4 highway. My only complaint is the speakers, easy fix.

This is my third Jeep and I really like this one the best. Mine is an 8 cylinder Laredo so I am very happy with the engine power.

  • Looks Good Runs Good Lots Of Problems - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Purchased vehicle with 49k on it in 2005. Now has 78k on it and weve had to: Replace rotors and brakes, front and rear; rear axle seals and bearings; front drive shaft boot; passenger side window module; drivers side rear & passenger front locks; drivers side break light assembly (because of short in internal wiring/sautering); dash speakers keep blowing; fan clutch; hood struts; on date of purchase had a rear drive shaft seal replaced. Shortly after purchase transfer case/rear end started making a clunking noise from stop and go. Not a scratch on it, almost as clean as a new one. Jeep is garaged and full service every 3000 miles. Only driven to work and back with occational road trip.

  • Piece of Junk - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I cant believe that I actually bought another Jeep Grand Cherokee after the problems I had with the first two. My 2000 has been a supreme disappointment and like many others, I have sworn off Jeeps for good. No more American crap for me. Major brake problems that have now cost me over $800 to fix, locking problems on the doors (a $300 fix), a clunking noise in the transmission and an AWD problem that the dealer seems to think Im imagining. Jeep should be ashamed of themselves for not bucking up and covering some fo the costs associated with these repairs -- its going to cost them in the long run.

Ive owned several Jeep Grand Cherokees Limited in the past as well as a Ford Explorer Limited, going from the Ford to the Jeep was like going from a Hyundai to a Lexus. Besides the GREAT deal I got, I love driving my new SUV. Id highly recommend it.

I have a harmonic groan that comes from the drivetrain. Dealer cant fix it and Chrysler wont do anything about it. Filing for Lemon Law help. Wouldnt buy another one.

Just traded in my 2001 Wrangler for this, and it was hard to part with, but I havent looked back! It has everything that you need, and it is a great size. Also, has great pick-up with the HO V8 and is so comfortable and rides real smooth... I cant say enough good things about this,

Absolutely incredible vehicle. I traded in my 2005 Audi A8 with no regrets. The Grand Cherokee SRT8 is an absolute blast to drive. Dont get this vehicle if you dont like gawkers and car questions for strangers!
