Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Lemon of SUV - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jk - May 13 - 10:36 pmEverything that can go wrong went wrong with this vehicle. From transmission, brake to window, doors, seats, etc.,everything seemed to fall apart. On average, it lasts less than 900 miles per dealer service day. Just repaced all rotors less than 30,000 miles, after two re-surfacing.

Over 205000 - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Bricker - May 13 - 9:33 amWe have used our Grand Cherokee as our main family transportation for almost seven years now. Bought it used with 69000 from a private owner. We use the 4wd regularly on our mini-farm and camping trips. Weve never had any 4wd issues. Rebuilt the trans. for the first time at 190000. Other work Ive done other than the regular maint. is a water pump, brake booster, trans. speed sensor. Weve been very pleased with the 4.0 in other Jeeps we had too. Its a big inline 6 so do not expect great mileage, but its got reliability and performance. The key to Jeeps from my experience (this is my 3rd) is keeping up with the routine maint. especially oil/fluid changes. Have fun, get outdoors!

Better than Liberty - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By CarolW - May 13 - 4:43 amI had a 2004 Liberty drove it from FL to IL. Came home with the Cherokee. The Cherokee was a much more comfortable drive. I did not feel like I need to get out and stretch as much.

Be careful in hot areas... - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By abloke - May 11 - 10:00 amGreat vehicle. Not a cross-over SUV. Drives well, comfortable seating, a lot of power. We have had it for 4 months now and are considering trading it in because of an inadequate air conditioning system. We live in the south and when the outside temp rises above 85 the vehicle doesnt cool down much past 80. It is ok in the front when the vents are pointed directly on you and the fan is on high, but the rear occupants dont get cooling that way. When the vents are pointed towards the back it doesnt make much difference. Jeep has recognized this problem and offers rear air vents in its 2005 models.

Jeep Overland Rocks - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Cody Oh - May 9 - 10:00 amI never even considered a Jeep until this year. I been strictly a Chevy man driving Blazers and Tahoes. But a salesman at a Jeep dealer challenged me to just try one. I had already made up my mind a Grand Cherokee was junk. That is until I drove it. WOW!!! This Overland rode like a dream, handled very well and accelerated like a rocket. I thought the 5.7 vortec in my hoe was peppy. But the 4.7 high output v8 in this Overland blows it away. Itll be a long time before I ever buy another over priced, over rated, GM.

personal experience - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Cathy - May 7 - 5:46 amI bought a 05 Grand Cherokee after driving a 04 4Runner Sport v8. I have to say that I like the options that you can get on the Laredo. The auto stick was the best thing that ever happened to the SUV buyers. It does wonderful on and off road and awesome when needing to pick up speed. And comes in very handy when driving in snowy weather. Gives you control of your SUV. I have never had problems with the engine light, but then I never let my gas run down to the reserve. Anyone knows that if you do that and it gets lower - the light will come on. Had an adjustment for the transmission in shop once - it needed a supplement fluid put in transmission for the auto stick use. I have never had any problems since.

WoW! Im probably just dreaming! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By NewJeepFan - May 5 - 10:00 amWell, I found this car on eBay and didnt think it would end up in my price range. Had been leased out for a very short time-11,687 mi. to be exact (banks still considered it new as opposed to used). In flawless condition he sold it to me for $17,800 with zero hassle/haggle. I couldnt believe it all the way home, (apx. 300 mi.) it rides great, it has great pickup for a 6 cyl. It corners like a bicycle compared to other SUVs (must be the Jeep in its blood). The leather feels great and it steers like a dream. Im an audio aficionado so eventually I will have to replace the sound system but for now this one is actually okay. Best car Ive evr had. Get one !

Love the Orvis - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By MQTennis - May 3 - 4:23 pmVery fun to drive. I like the exterior look of it. The Orvis has a excellent green paint job. Seats are very comfortable. Had to replace the CD player and battery is on its last year. Orvis is not a common car on the street. Drives decent on snowy roads. Some times it slips up in slush due to power and gear ratio. Not good gas mileage. A significant amount of rattles in the rear. 95000 miles and still running strong. All around good vehicle.
