The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

satisfied owner - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By nor - May 28 - 10:00 amThe 2001 jeep (v8) has excellent, smooth power and gets the exact same gas mileage as our 6cyl.(17 city,19 hiway). Acceptable smooth ride for a 4X4. Has been very reliable so far with only a few small problems (seat heater and warped brake rotors). Dealer very responsive and good to deal with. We dont like the leather seats, too slippery and uncomfortable. Drivers hand and elbow position on the steering wheel awkward and uncomfortable. We love the car and would buy another.

Misled - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Derek - May 28 - 4:23 am2006 WK not with 60,000 miles. Besides the hard seats poor MPGs and electrical gremlins. My door hinges on the front doors are failing and are hitting the front fenders. There are only 2 bolts that hold the hinges on and they has tons of slack. The cost to fix the problem either $400 for new hinges or $1,000 to have new ones installed and to have the doors rehung. Engineering and build quality is pitiful. I will be trading in this piece of junk ASAP for something foreign. BTW I am a jeep fan with an old wagoneer that is absolutely bulletproof.

First Jeep! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The suspension dampens imperfections in the road well, and the rack and pinion steering provides a solid and responsive road feel. The all-wheel drive grabs pavement with gusto and on tight roads this SUV is very nimble with minimal body roll. The Grand Cherokees seats are firm and supportive, and the two-tone perforated leather looks quite contemporary. Wood trim on the center console and door panels is very upscale.

Great car so far - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By DINLONG - May 26 - 10:00 amMy 06 HEMI now has just over 90k on it. Has had no real issues. My only complaint about the car would be the awful Goodyear tires Jeep decided to use. I recently swapped them out for Firestone Destination ATs - what a difference! I also installed Bilstein shocks and SRT front and rear sway bars. This Jeep will go through anything now, and is very controlled and comfortable doing it. People complain about gas mileage on the HEMIs - are you kidding me? Coming from a F150 with the 5.4 I am completely happy. The Jeep weighs about the same, has way more power, and is way more fun to drive, yet I get about 5 more MPG - what is there to complain about?

TERRIBLE NEVER BUYING ANOTHER - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JusEmptyEntirePocket - May 25 - 12:26 pmI bought my 05 Jeep Grand cherokee in June of 2008 and have had nothing but problems since day one. Right away the starter went and then from there on the list is endless now the rear end is leaking the car only has 54,000 miles on it and its sitting in a driveway because within the past 3 weeks it has cost me over $2,000 in repairs. love my jeep but it is really getting ridiculous. I am looking into trading it in for a brand new honda, no more jeeps even though I have loved them my whole life. I guess its just the luck of the draw some people have good luck others do not.

cylinder misfire - 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

At 68,000km the engine light came on and my warranty expired at 60,000....code read indicated cylinder misfire...currently my jeep will be taken apart and in the mechanic shop for a week or so, its been there now for two day...power train warranty does cover it thank heavens....however extremely disappointed its already in the shop for repairs...apparently this is a common problem had i done my research i would not have purchased this vehicle...next time i will be getting extended warranty...but not a chrysler....good luck!!! my brothers lending me his truck for now!!!!

New motor and 180k miles later... - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By dburkland1028 - May 23 - 9:53 amI got my Grand Cherokee about a month ago from a wholesaler for $2000. Obviously it was a little rough around the edges with some dents and high miles (180k) but with a new 4.0 V6, this Jeep runs strong! The tranny is stock and shifts cleaner than a lot of brand new cars. For an SUV in its size range, the mileage is amazing. I get about 20 in city and up to 28 on highway. Mine suffered the plague of this model GC with warped front rotors. It was a quick and cheap fix, however, buying one with body damage is a risk, especially around the doors. Being a unibody car, the frame gets bent very easily, which is the last remaining problem on mine. Beautiful interior, lots of space, A+ ride!

By surferron - May 23 - 9:38 amGetting 20.2 mpg hwy. improved after engine break in. Large media screen is nice but slower than a Lexus. Good voice recognition . Hard seats with great ventilation. Cheap plastics for interior . Lots of ports for plug ins.

lemon of a dealer, lemon of a jeep - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By atlmberry - May 22 - 2:00 amPlan on heavy expenses for maintenance (nothing was covered under the gold extended jeep warranty). before 45k miles, I replaced the AC system, brakes, battery (twice), various electrical components, power window modules, memory seat module, stereo speakers, stereo controls on steering wheel, etc. Everytime I started the vehicle, the seat would propel me into the dash - jeep couldnt find the problem, not to mention the calls for a tow truck because it wouldnt start - so I got the opportunity to spend lots of time and money in the shop. Lots of road noise with this vehicle. It may look good from the outside, but its not worth the headaches.

Exellent SUV - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Ryan62 - May 22 - 2:00 amI own a 99 JGL with select trac 4wd, 98k miles and have had only 2 issues with it. (1) The water pump went out after a grueling 4x4 expediton. Mud, water forging, steep inclines, and rock hopping. (2) The transfer case had a slight leak. Other than these minor diffculties the Jeep has ran great. It does have the clunk when shifting to reverse, but thats the nature of a good transmission. It also has the hard shift between 2 and 3rd, but I speculate the factory told the computers to shift at a bad time; it only happens when I take some time to get up to speed, not when I floor it when the stop light becomes green.
