Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Hasta (get me there and get me home) - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Harmony - July 15 - 4:36 amWith 116,000 miles its time to consider a new vehicle although it has more than served us well for 7 years. Just required regular maintenance and expected parts to need replacing after 100,000 miles. Hate to part with this friend.

Fun to drive - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By david - July 13 - 9:30 amI bought a used Grand Cherokee about 3 months ago and have had absolutely no problems with it. I bought the V8 and only get about 18 MPG but sold my 3/4 ton suburban for it so the gas mileage is great! Very fast with the V8, have gotten up to 115 in this with virtually no shaking or noises of any kind. I needed a mountain goat for the winter so I can get up the mountain for Skiing and have no concerns with powering through feet of fresh powder.

IM NOT KIDDING.. 17 JEEP ENGINE SHUTS ITSELF OFF - 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Ron - July 13 - 7:51 amI owned my first grand cherokee for 17 years. When I decided it was time for a new vehicle I looked at all the different 2017 SUVs and cross overs on the market and decided that for me, Jeep was still the way to go. My priorities were, comfort, style, towing capability, storage capacity, and a luxurious interior with great sound (if you get the 600 watt sub woofer option). The jeep came the closest to meeting all of these for under $50k. I took my first 1,500 mile trip last week and was very pleased with all the above mentioned (other than I haven’t towed a trailer yet). HOWEVER..... The 3.6L ESS engine (ESS stands for electronic stop/start) is designed to SHUT OFF EVERY TIME YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP LASTING MORE THAN A FEW SECONDS. ). It does start back up when you release the brake but only after a noticeable delay. This is to save a few drops of gas, but think about this the next time you’re inching along in traffic, waiting in line for a hamburger, or wanting to make a quick right hand turn at a red light. Also keep in mind that when your engine shuts off so does the heating and cooling. (the sales guys will try to give you all kinds of BS about this major design screw up and will tell you that you can turn it off, BUT you have to turn it off EVERY time you start your Jeep) Now the GOOD NEWS. there is a solution on the internet that just takes 3 seconds to plug in your maintenance port and allows YOU to decide if and when you ever want to use this extremely annoying feature (I did drive the first 500 miles with the ESS feature enabled and it was very annoying to both me and my wife). I would not of purchased a jeep if I hadn’t of already found a great solution to overcome this design flaw at http://www.smartstopstart.com/ . NOTE: Jeep is not the only manufacturer that uses this dumb stop/start idea so educate yourself before you purchase any car.... 2018 will be even worse. I love just about everything about my new 2017 GC jeep, but would NEVER recommend it to anyone without the smart stop/start module. ($125)

Truck Died on Testdrive - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By saxguyck - July 12 - 11:13 pmSo I will say that I always absolutely loved the grand cherokees until I got to drive one; the quality is horrible. I went to test drive a beautiful black 05 4x4. For the first 5 minutes of the test drive, I was in love. The car was cool and looked good from the outside and the interior was nicely appointed. Then when I stopped at a traffic light, all of a sudden, the certified pre-owned truck died and had to be towed. We went back to the lot and I picked out another one and this other one wouldnt start. At this time I decided to leave and forget about buying a Jeep at all. Again, these were 2 certified pre-owned jeeps with less than 30,000 miles that broke down while I was trying to buy

I Love Jeeps... BUT! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By zrubin1 - July 10 - 9:03 pmI have had this JGC for 10 months. Within that time I have had to send it in for 2 major repairs. This car has already cost me $1,700 to fix and according to the mechanic, who just replaced my starter, servos and battery, I will be needing a new Water Pump soon. Thats another $600 fix. In addition to the mechanical fixes there are several issues that I have let slide, including burnt out LEDs in the dash ($150 to repair), window motor broken, AC not getting cold, and door lock getting stuck. This Jeep has been a NIGHTMARE. Ive owned 4 jeeps and will probably never buy another one again.

Love My Overland! - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Stacey - July 8 - 10:00 amShopped the new Overland hard against the Lexus GX470 and RX350. Next to the Overland, there was no comparison. The Overland comes equipped with everything! Honestly dont know why anyone would buy a Limited with packages when the car comes in costing more then the Overland and has less features. Had to track this car down to sit in one before ordering mine, and found too many Jeep salesman who did not know as much about the car as I did(having done my HW), and not as much excitement as I felt the car deserves. That said the Jeep line 800- 935-JEEP is FANTASTIC, answered every question I had, clarified salesman misinformation, and were sooo on the ball! This car is a DREAM to own!

Safety Issues - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By stan90 - July 7 - 1:52 pmI leased a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited in November, 2013. It has a variety of problems some of which are serious safety issues that both the dealer and Chrysler choose to ignore. The transmission lags and lurches and makes periodic clanking noises. Worse than that, mine has twice run up engine rpms while I was breaking to stop - a serious safety issue. The electronic shifter offers no advantages. but rather is distracting (requiring a look down to verify what gear you are in). During an emergency situation I needed to stop and quickly shift into reverse to avoid a collision. Using this shifter created a delay that almost killed me. Several other problems none of which are fixed.

Only Jeep owners would understand - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Garus - July 7 - 1:13 pmWhat can I say, I own a 98 Grand with about 105,000 miles on it. I put a 2" spring spacer lift on with 31 x 10.5 tires...It has a meaner stance to it now. Truck has been great! I would definitely buy another one. It looks good enough to take the girlfriend out or go mudding in holes somewhere. I also love the power...I absolutley love this truck!

My 1999 Jeep grand Cherokees story - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JJJ - July 4 - 2:00 amWe bought this Jeep as a tow vehicle for a 20 runabout. I cant complain because there has been no problems in the last 10,000 mile. From all the reviews Ive read,it seem these jeeps are either a hit or a failure with nothing in the middle. Perhaps Chrysler should take note and increase quality control or extend warrenties to 10 years.
