Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Dont buy-transmission problems - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Good looking vehicle. Has many mechanical issues. Transmission is crap. Mine went out at 41000 and I had problems getting Chrysler to fix it. There is something horribly wrong when a vehicle has 41000 miles on it and the transmission fails. Dont buy. Cheaply built. I traded for a Honda.

  • My First SUV is a Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I looked a lot of vehicles and then I bought the Laredo with the X package. I drove two Limiteds (one with the Hemi), before deciding that I didnt want all that chrome on the outside with a wood interior on the inside. I got it with the 4.7 V8 and it has plenty of power. Unless you need to tow "bigger stuff" the 4.7 is plenty good and fun. It handles wonderfully well and doesnt "feel" as big as it is. Its very nimble and can make very nice (legal) U-turns. With the cornucopia of a la carte options you can really get the Jeep YOU want. Its both a blessing and a curse as figuring out what you can get and what you do get can sometimes be confusing. Do your homework BEFORE you go out.

This is my 4TH Jeep (3+3+3+1 years of lease) and I have had NO PROBLEMS EVER. Not even a burned fuse or bulb!!! NONE !!! Ergonomically - absolutely no match, Performance, Acceleration, Handling, Off-Road and TOWING capabilities ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. When Im pulling my 24" 6500lbs Cruiser Boat people always stopping me suggesting to contact Jeep to shoot a commercial ;-) and on the ice, snow and crud Jeep just shines!

  • 97 Jeep grand - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep was the best auto I ever owned. I have owned over 40 different types of autos, not one can reach he style and grace of my SUV. It looks good under the lights and driving in a blizzard. It is as a safe a high profile vehicle.

  • First Time,Last time Jeep owner - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Purchased Jan. 07. 13 days later Jeep replaced a cracked head gasket. Then the battery had to be replaced, then the ECU, then the gauges would tick & bottom out even with the key out. Then the tach and speedo stopped working. My mechanic & Jeep cant figure this out. Im done with Jeeps after this! I will miss some things like how well it turned! the upgraded braking system I installed, the sound system, the way my baby handled in the snow and the lack of a car payment! Darn Jeep!!! :-(

  • Dangerous shifting lever - 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Test the shifting lever which is electronic, when shifting from park to drive 90% of the time if goes to "N". When shifting from "D to "P" it will stop at "R" and if you are not careful and double check the shifter and try to turn the motor off prior to getting out the car will start moving backwards. The dealer tells me they all operate this way. I have owned many Jeep Cherokee over the years and this will be the last. Not good at all

  • Best choice ive ever made - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my Jeep about two years ago, I had always wanted a Jeep, and had my pick of what I wanted. It was a great choice, I had a few problems right off the bat, I blame it on the dealership not the car! After I fixed those problems (normal problems that come with buying a 10 year old car) I got to enjoy my Jeep like it should be. I take care of it and it takes care of me. I feel extremely safe in my Jeep and have a lot of fun driving it! With the limited, I feel comfortable inside and love how I look while Im driving it! I couldnt ask for a better car!

  • One Month Old - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought a 2011 Grand Cherokee one month ago. I have the V8 - Overland Edition, Black, w/ Saddlle/Black interior. So far no problems. The V8 has lots fo power and tourque. Interior in comfortable, no issues. Having traded in my Lexus ES 350 for this vehicle, I miss a few minor things. The NAV doesnt automatically change from day to night lighting and it takes three steps on the menu to change it. A bit of a pain and at night its definately too bright. Also, the keyless unlock often taken a few seconds to unblock. My Lexus unlocked any door instantly. On the Jeep it onlu unlocked the driver door and I usually havew to hold my hand their for 3 seconds or so before it unlock

  • Take it back - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my third Jeep but my second lease. This one has fallen short right out the gate. I bought my Jeep in February. The issue is when I tried to put the vehicle in reverse or any other gear, it would snap back into park. I would have to turn the vehicle off and on again at which time it would work but my engine light would remain on. First they said it was a faulty shifter module and replaced it within 2 hrs. One week later, back in, this time they said it is an issue with a transmission part. Two days in the shop. Two weeks later its in again...now it has been in for 2 weeks come this Wednesday and they are replacing the entire transmission. Eventually.

  • Worst Mechanical - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Vehicle had problems for the time it was delivered. It suffered multiple leaks oil & grease. It is extemely hard on brakes and tires in city driving. Shocks leaked at 36,000mi. U joint went at 36,000mi. Transmission locked in 2nd at 37,000. Had to be replaced. The SUV had mild city driving in very mild climate. It is very expensive to maintain and very unreliable. I have owned many new vehicles and this has been the worst.
