Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Overall great, but a few annoying problems so far - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By hager_2000 - September 9 - 1:40 amI have had my 2011 JGC Limited Hemi for about 7 months now. Its quiet, fast and handles pretty well for a heavy SUV ~ 4800 lbs. One major problem I have had is I went to start it and it was dead in my driveway. Found out the ground bolt for the starter sheared off. No clue how it happened, dealer had never seen it happen before. Automatic HVAC required reprogramming, would only blow hot air, seems to work ok now.. Pretty happy with the vehicle, very solidly built compared to my 2005 JGC which I hit into a concrete embankment at 50 mph and walked away without a scratch - hyrdoplaned. The vehicle is cheap life insurance, very safe.

First Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Twitch - September 7 - 5:16 amHave been driving the 3.7 version for almost two years. Towed a fully loaded 5x8 enclosed trailer weighing 2000 lbs across the country with no problems in the mountains. Turn radius in parking lot is similar to small car. Power steering works great when at full stop. Spark plugs are difficult to replace, but not impossible. Climate control is quick to respond.

A Great Car for its Time - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Douger - September 7 - 2:00 amIve had this car for nearly 5 years now and have really been quite happy with it. I did need to replace the AC compressor twice... a common problem, Ive read. Other than that, if you are perhaps a bit more aggressive in changing differential, transmission, and transaxle fluids then the manufacturer recommends, these are great cars on and off the road. Other minor problems: Mirror memory Seatbelt sensor ABS sensors (adjustment needed only)

So Far, Pretty Good! - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By vampyre40 - September 7 - 2:00 amWhen I first bought this the dealer gave me a 30 day warranty. Good thing. In the first week, the front brakes needed new rotors, and the a/c ran hot and needed a new evap. cylinder. The dealer fixed everything. 2 months later, The check engine light came on and I replaced the speed sensor. A week after that, the drivers side electric window motor burned out. I replaced that and it wasnt easy! I have now had the car for a little over a year and have had no further problems. Hopefully it stays that way. Although I have grown attached to my JEEP, I wouldnt buy another.

Not sure what to think - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Terry - September 4 - 1:53 pmThis vehicle has been fun to drive but has had problems since day 1. Bought it at 55,000 miles, it had the 318 V-8 engine in it. Dealership could never fix engine "pinging." Rod bearings went, then entire engine had to be replaced at 101,000 miles. It was my wifes vehicle and she used it to commute back and forth a short distance to work. This vehicle has never been driven hard or abused. We also had trouble with the 4WD slipping out of 4WD low--wouldnt engage. The CD player quit working, radio shorts out. Sunroof leaks during big rainstorms. Vehicle has bled us dry for repair bills. Gets 15.6 mpg. Trannie seems to shift back and forth unnecessarily when going up hills.

It works! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By John - September 4 - 4:26 amI bought the JGC LTD (5.7 Hemi) in Missouri and drove it home to FL. So far, so great! Its a blast to drive and the new model year suspension is very smooth. As expected, the fuel economy is not great but that isnt why one buys a SUV. Ive now driven over 1,400 miles and I cant say its anything less than expected. And its a head turner to beat.

Nightmare Vehicle! - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Sam - September 3 - 2:10 pmI bought my vehicle (used) in November of 2007. It has only been 8 months and I have had it in the shop 4 times already! 1st with the radio and heater, 2nd with the transmission, 3rd time with the transmission AGAIN, and now its the a/c and shocks. I WILL NEVER IN MY LIFE PURCHASE ANOTHER JEEP. I have had nothing but trouble. And the gas mileage is even worse. I only average 15.3 HWY! Now Im stuck with this piece of garbage for 5 years!!!

Perfect for a Tall Guy - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Bill in Phoneinx - August 31 - 10:00 amLots of mid-size SUVs have similar 3.6L V6 engines, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is a perfect combination of power, luxury, safety, aesthetics and room. Im a tall guy -- 65" -- and there is plenty of head room, leg room and shoulder room. Good visibility. The electronics work great, and the voice activated radio and phone are excellent.
