Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Great looking car, but nowhere near as comfortable as my previous model Grand Cherokee.

I purchased this vehicle used from a private owner. When I purchased the vehicle, I knew that I would need to replace a few parts but did not suspect just how many I would actually have to replace. I have since had to replace all shocks, all rotors, pads, calipers, the muffler, a steering damper, all tie rod ends, an EVAP canister, both hood supports, the rear windshield wipers motor and both headlights. I still need to replace the driver side ball joints, and something within the vacuum system. I put a K&N air filter in & high-flow muffler, with absolutely zero difference in gas mileage. Have constant minor and foreshadowing problems, that always stay true. Would not recommend buying ever.

  • In my opinion...... - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Granted it is a 96 and with age it will ultimately depreciate as will any other automobile out there. So that being said youd typically want to buy something thats reliable. This car is anything but reliable in my opinion. Its broke down twice in a year. Ive had a series of problems which has cause me numerous headaches. A helpful tip... if anyone is looking to purchase this Jeep I would advise them 100% not to. Spend alittle extra money and purchase a used Nissan Pathfinder. Its an outstanding SUV.

  • 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My experiences with Jeep Grand Cherokees have been good ones. Before buying the 2003 model, I compared the features of the Grand Cherokee with other SUVs in its class. The Jeep had many more features and nicer interior/exterior for the money compared with other SUVs the same size. In my opinion, the ride is smooth, reliability is good, passenger space is excellent. The 2003 model has a bigger storage space than the older models. This is my second Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Im very pleased with both models.

  • Save tearing your hair out -BUY A TOYOTA - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My jeep has been well maint. to the tune of $$. Although it has been taken "care" of, it has been been plagued by problems. Both bun warmers and the computer console burned out, the odometer developed bleedthrough on the numbers (you could see mileage when you had the trip meter on..) air cond leak (somewhere), evap system leak (somewhere).. IS ANYONE SEEING A PATTERN? JEEP stands behind their product until the magic 36KÂ…then see ya. BEWARE-- do your homework BEFORE you purchase a product which doesnt have any workmanship quality. Shame on JEEP.

  • 2000 Laredo at 280k - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought this Jeep used with only 17k miles and used it for a work vehicle. I drove it up to 1000 miles per week until it got up to about 250k miles. I liked this Jeep so much, I bought another one (a used 2004) in 2007. But I kept the 2000 for use as the wifes daily driver. It is still going strong at 280k miles. The engine (4.7) and transmission have never given me any trouble. Oh sure there have a lot of minor things go wrong, such as the electric door locks, throttle position sensor, waterpump, alternator, axle seals and those kind of things. The only major repairs have been the front differential and the engine computer. Jeeps do require more regular maintenance than some other vehicles

  • Tall Folks Beware - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchased the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland edition with the 5.7L Hemi. From the exterior, the vehicle is beautiful! Inside, the seats are well designed with an authentic Jeep style. The engine purrs and delivers a seemingly endless supply of power. I was very excited by the thought of having such a rugged SUV with so much power AND navigation. Now for the bad news. If you are over six feet tall, DO NOT buy this or any Jeep Grand Cherokee. With the seat all the way down on the drivers side, I can still feel my hair scraping the ceiling. Forget wearing a hat! It is impossible for me to ride as a passenger - no room. Lucky for me, my wife is a foot shorter. I now pine for the MDX!

  • Spectacular! - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have been wanting a Jeep SRT8 since they were first produced and I recently bought a 2006 with 79,000 miles. It takes my breath away whenever I punch the throttle. It looks great, ir very comfortable, can outhandle most of the so-called sports cars on the road, and has plenty of great features: nav, in-dash CD changer, rear DVD player, soft leather seat trim, and power everything. If I dont lean on it too much I can get 18-19 MPG but the temptation is too great most of the time. It can smoke almost anything else out there from a dead stop. Shift the transmission down to low gear on a slow roll and floor the throttle and try and tell me its not the wildest ride ever wrapped in an SUV body

  • Base model represents and excellent value - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Too many other reviewers have complained about poor throttle response and the default to eco-mode transmission. Sport mode on the transmission is intuitive and impressive in its ability to hold a lower gear when torque is needed on demand. I regularly toggle between D and S modes with a simple reward tug on the transmission selector handle for the times when I want fuel savings or for the times when throttle response is of utmost importance. The base model Laredo is a two wheel drive model, and the only option I chose was 23E (8-way adjustable electric drivers seat). I am averaging 20.8 MPG over 5500 miles of mixed city/highway driving. Comfortable ride and fine handling.

  • Lemon with a golden wrapper - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have been almost anal with the up- keep of this car. I have followed the manual and performed every service recommended to the letter, but it has been nothing but problems in return. I know 4 other people, besides myself that have owned upper end Grand Cherokees or Loredos and not one of us would ever buy another one. Every time I have taken it to a shop and talked about the problems I have experienced, the mechanics confirm my frustrations by agreeing that this is not a reliable car.
