Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • shes been good - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my Jeep when it had 100k miles on it. My only complaint is the transfer case is tore up, therefore I lost my 4x4 capabilities. It doesnt get that good of gas mileage. However compared to other SUVs the same size it isnt too bad. I love the interior and it is extremely COMFY. I would recommend this vehicle to anybody!

  • Turning into a money pit - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my first and only car. Was bought in 2005 or 6 with 40k-ish miles. Since then I have replaced the window regulator SEVEN times. Seriously learn to fix it yourself, the part costs about $70. Costs $300-400 at a mechanic. Fan relay broke once. Now the Throttle position sensor is jacked up and causing me to stall out while idling occasionally. Tail lights are just always out - honest to god I rigged it with tinfoil and that seems to work the longest. Battery seems to need replacing yearly. It has always groaned/vibrated when making slow tight turns no one seems to know what it is. All of the hydrolics for the lift gate/hood dont work. Basically, only buy it if you a fairly handy.

  • Love the Overland - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This 2003 Overland edition is great looking. The interior is also very attractive, but I find the drivers seat too soft and too small. The vehicle does not handle that well on windy country roads. There is a significant amount of body roll and the seat does not seem to hold my average sized body very securely. I love the chrome 17 wheels. The leather/suede mix is nice in the interior. The 4.7 HO is very powerful and quick from a start and when merging. The sound system is good but not excellent. My wife is the primary driver of this vehicle and she loves it. The vehicle has performed well on all road surfaces and in all conditions. The creature features of the overland are great.

I have had a few issues with the new design in the beginning. But Jeep fixed any problems right away and it has been a blast to drive

  • 2007 Grand Cherokee - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought this vehicle new in July 2007 and put on 7200 miles in 3 months. Towed equipment trailer across country and back in 114 degree weather without any problems. I can recommend this car without any reservations. Best gas mileage to date is 22mpg- somewhat disappointing. Interior layout is well done, seats are comfortable, AC and sound system work well. Paid 24k new for this car- it is worth it.

  • I gotta a Hemi under there! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I love my new Jeep. Its loaded with everything I want in a car. And it still rides like a car. I also own a 99 JGC Laredo with almost 160,000 miles on it. It was hard to give it up and commit to the new Jeep, but after doing so, my kids are now enjoying an everyday Jeep themselves. I guess you could say I love my Jeeps.

  • Poor Quality Parts and Build - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I was warned about the poor reliability but thought Id take a chance after reading about improved quality. HA! I was very unhappy with the cheap parts constantly breaking and TERRIBLE transmission. Two power windows went bad, the steering wheel radio controls got stuck, the power locks went bad and the arm rests cracked. Dealer was familiar with all of my problems. Transmission was extremely clunky: car would buck when switching from first to second; when I stepped on the gas after stopping, it would act like it was in neutral for a few seconds before making a loud clunk and lurching forward; dealer said this was normal!

  • Love my HEMI GC! - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I absolutely love my 2008 Grand Cherokee Limited 4wd. It is so much more fun to drive than my IS300 and either of the Acura TLs I had before. It fits my needs perfectly and also is great to drive. Nothing else can really compare to it! My father has owned several Jeeps and I will definitely purchase another one. Next one will be a SRT8 though :)

  • Cover Up Your Condenser or Pony Up $700 - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my third Jeep. I love the Hemi (dislike the poor gas mileage), the updated styling and the ride. However, beware. My wife was driving our Overland on a highway (not off road), couldnt avoid a blown tire (re-tread) laying in the roadway. Unbelievably, a piece of the re-tread flipped up into the unprotected AC condenser area (that huge, open area just under your front bumper) and barely punctured the condenser. The outcome? A $700 repair bill and me jerry-rigging (with gardening wire I bought at Lowes) a protection screen for this exposed area. INCREDIBLY POOR design for an alleged "rough/tough" $40,000 off-road SUV. Unbelievable - a warning to all to "cover up your condenser"
