Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Transmission replacement at 10k miles - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is the SUV from hell! There is a strange squeaky noise from the rear seats. The transmission light keeps coming on. The other day all lights (park, neutral, reverse, and drive) came on at the same time while driving. The RPMs were over 4k. The service center has been a nightmare also. No records of us bringing the truck in for repair. They ordered a computer chip for the transmission and cant find it. Great! Now, 3 months later and I still have transmission issues. We bought it brand new 2005 with four miles on it.

  • good looks poor performance - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought this suv with 20,000 miles and thats when the problems started the biggest problem is sometimes when the traffic light changes from red to green and I try to accelerate it wont go it needs 3-5 secs to finally go, very poorly designed interior very BASIC (like a car from the 80s) no options, seats also stained very easily. Dont like the gas guzzling all wheel drive all the time I would Rather have the shifting option, sadly based on dealership customer service and Chrysler products this is the last Jeep Ill own.

  • Quality SUV - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Had it new since 97, and I have few complaints. Motor does seem slightly tired, but thats understandable. Belts squeak a bit, and tranny slips a bit at times, but only momentarily. Bottom line: a well-conceived and designed SUV that lived up to its billing as the best SUV value out there at the time of purchase. Ive driven it daily since purchase, and towed a small boat at least a couple hundred times without any major mechanical issues.

  • Review - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The differienial had to be repaired every 12 to 18 months thus making it unreliable when taking a trip out of town. This jeep required a lot of maintenance. The power steering and gas sensor had to be replaced. The heated seat repaired a number of times. It is difficult to lay the back seat down.

  • Not Happy - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Just outside warranty period. Had to replace the gear module. It cost $1100.00. I called Jeep, they were very rude. This is my second Jeep, will be my last. I do not recommend Jeep to anyone. They have really gone down hill.

  • 2007 Loaded Laredo closeout beat competition - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

We have a -Laredo- loaded w/X pkg and 4.7L V8 The X makes a Laredo almost a Limited w/o extra chrome & interior goodies (dual heat & seat memory) we did not need. This is our 2nd JGC, ownined a 01 Laredo we sold to our son. This won out over 08 Liberty & commander & CUVs like Saturn Outlook, Veracruz, Highlander. I wanted something to tow a 2500 boat w/margin. Not sure of V8 but this is E85 capable, 30% cheaper in MN but less efficient too. Its also similar enough to our old JGC we felt very comfortable, and the $4k rebate & discount beat all others. Happy so far, need to write another review in a year.

  • Dependable - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have replaced all of the anxillary parts, e.g. battery, alternator, power steering pump, water pump (2x),... My biggest complaint is that the A/C gets clogged with leaves. I had to "gut" the dash to replace the evaporator. I did it myself only because I was a student at the time and couldnt afford to pay $1,000 in labor to install a $100 part. It taxed my shade-tree mechanic capabilities, however.

  • 5.7 Limited 4x4 - 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee

What can I say - just awesome! I just came from a F-150 Laredo and its night & day. I would have to say the one thing that jumps out at me is the build quality & raw power.

  • Dont Buy the V-8 - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Great styling, plenty of power, power mileage. The V-8 has an annoying surge under light load. The Jeep regional service guy agrees, but states its the way Jeep has the engine and transmission programmed. I know the styling is awesome, but dont let the beauty get in the way. Dont say I didnt warn you!
