The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Update After 6+ Months - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This vehicle still gets very poor gas mileage. 15.673 per gallon to be exact (calculated by taking current mileage and dividing by gallons used to fill tank ---- 40 times). It still has a horrible tendency to down shift like a 67 Chevelle station wagon. Baaaaam! Is the best way to describe it. Sometimes bad enough to think you have been rear-ended. This is my third Jeep. And my last. Steer clear of Jeeps. That are not what they once were.

By jglen - January 26 - 10:00 amI think the Jeep is beatiful, and it runs excellent. Ive kept it in good shape, and pretty much the only thing I regret about it is not getting the sunroof. It has needed only the following minor repairs, so I think the 100k miles extended Chrysler warrantee I got was necessary: some problem with a transmission seal, the lock mechanism wouldnt let me start the car one day, fuel pump needed to be replaced. So only twice in 2 years I have not been able to drive it. The warranty covered 100%. so It was not bad at all, considering this Jeep is an awesome ride, very comfortable in long and short drives,

By gwcoggin - January 24 - 1:40 pmI can not get the brakes fixed, needs a new set of rotors every 10,000 miles. The transfer case goes 20,000 miles between leaks in the transfer case. It is very capable off road and it is a wonderful vehicle to tow behind my Motorhome.

Proud Owner Of A Rock Solid 2002 JCG - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By ferrisbueller609 - January 24 - 10:53 amI am the original owner of a 2002 JGC Laredo I6/RWD with very little extras and I cant praise this vehicle enough. Now has 105k miles and no major problems to report. Did have the passenger window motor fail and the A/C had to be replaced last summer. I have used Mobil 1 synthetic on all oil changes since 1000 miles and the engine is still strong. Over 8 years, I have AVERAGED 18.5 MPG and get 23 easily on the highway at 70 MPH. From reading the reviews, it seems that my results are not typical, but I do take great care in driving and maintaining my mighty JGC. The exterior styling is classic, the interior is functional and comfortable and even without 4WD it handles the snow like a champ!

Beware before Getting This Jeep!! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By etravel - January 22 - 7:46 pmI bought this truck I loved it in the beginning. Its approx a little over a year and it has done nothing but given me problems. The first thing was the driver side window motor and regulator. That was $330 alone. A couple months later the coil pack was going bad (only four out of the eight) that was very pricey. Couple months later my steering wheel fluid was leaking. Next my radiator was leaking, had to replace that thermostat, etc. Then couple months later got a tune up thinking this would help mileage and help it drive somewhat better. The next day the truck shut off while in park. Thinking mite be fuel pump is why car keeps shutting off (due to bad gas months ago) way to much money for maintenance!

By Michael - January 22 - 9:10 amThe Grand Cherokee is a good, solid SUV. It handles well and is fun to drive. It has good road manners and gives excellent feedback to the driver. It is a Jeep and rides a little stiffer than the competition but it is never an issue. The gas mileage is a little below the competitors but should not be a consideration when comparing SUVs.

By joemags1 - January 22 - 4:35 amI made the mistake of purchasing a 2012 Jeep Overland in Colorado. This vehicle certainly falls short of that is it the most awarded SUV, as I now think that Chrysler hands out its own awards. With a hemi installed, expect to get an average of 17 miles per gallon city and highway combine. The NAV system is poor at best; I had trouble with it from day one as it would lose memory. I just had the radio replaced with no guarantee from the dealer that this will correct the issue. The one item that bugs me the most is the lack of quality of the exterior chrome, or should I say chrome coated plastic. nice ride - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By tom0629 - January 19 - 2:00 amI have had my Jeep for about a year now and although i have seen people on here dog them, i have been nothing but happy. I have almost 60000.00 on the jeep and still havent had to replace the brakes. The stereo is nice. My wife loves the heated leather seats. V8 has some good low end power. I had my friend look at the brakes and he says they look good.
