Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Dont waste your money - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

First of all, I know nothing about mechanics. But I have had problems with my Jeep from day one. First day I had it would not shift past 35 mph, it got worse and I had to call roadside assistance. They sent a tow truck from out of town so it took over an hour. Turns out something was wrong with the transmission. Then all winter long the service 4 wheel drive light would come on, dealer could never find the problem. October 2006 it started stalling as I drive at low speeds. Again dealer cant find the problem it now does this at least once a week and Ive been told theres nothing they can do. Its been to the dealership for leaks around the sunroof and windshield 3xs.

  • GC Overland V8 - could not be happier! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought my GC Overland 6 weeks ago and now passed the 3,000 mile mark. It is the V8 version with the advanced technology package. This vehicle is so far pretty much flawless and I am truly enjoying every moment driving it! First, the car is a beauty inside and out, very roomy inside, nice trim, great dual-pane sunroof; second, the driving experience is top of the line - smooth, controlled, quite, and extremely powerful. The 8.4 inch screen is really the right size to have while driving, tons of features on the electronics, and I have yet to find anything that does not work! Seats are a little firm, but the ventilation makes up for it.

  • Needs Improvement - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Although its a step up in comfort and style from the 2000 Cherokee Sport we owned, it doesnt live up to its nearly $30K sticker price. Acceleration and handling is poor, tons of body roll, even for an SUV. Feels like driving a boulder. Brakes are higly unresponsive. Only thing worth a compliment is the ride quality.

  • Very Satisfied - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We leased it new. Now were buying it! Weve moved three times and fit lots in the back when the seats are down. Well, now that were buying it, therell probably be lots of things that fall apart, because thats how things go sometimes. Well just buy an extended warranty.

  • Couple of Quirks - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Overall I like it. Power of V8 is great. With Quadra drive, turning tight turns, jumps, jerks etc. from full time 4 x 4. Rear seat leg room could be better. Had a Nissan Murano; loved it, but would not pull my trailer -- this Jeep will with ease. Just hope the tranny and rotors hold up to 100k miles. Ride is a little shaky, not as refined as most suvs these days.

  • Nice to look at, Horrific to drive - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The car drove like a dream for the first 500 miles. Im at 8,200 and every mile in between has been a nightmare. The transmission slams up and down, causing a terribly uncomfortable ride-and remember it has 8 gears so it is constantly changing gears. In the morning, the transmission has become so rough I feel as though I am being rear ended. I have had it at two different dealerships to solve the issues and both have told me it is normal-and if it something were actually wrong a fault light would illuminate. I was issued a case manager with jeep corporate. She refused to return calls-I went three days calling her three times before she picked up.

  • Overjoyed Overland Owner. Best Buy Ever! - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I love my spouses 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee so much, I traded my vehicle in for an Overland edition all my own. I nearly held out for the even larger Dodge Durango based on the JGC because of it seating up to 7-8 passengers over Jeeps 5, but could not pass up the excellent deal on this fine SUV. The AWD Overland V8 is the way to go if hauling. Even with a heavy boat attached, this vehicle moves - and how! The ride is far better than the large offerings from Cadillac, Range Rover and Lincoln that I looked at. The interior is richer, more comfortable, a lot quieter and of a much higher built quality. The sunroof is terrific. Visibility is the best of all luxury utes I have ever seen. Wow!

  • 215,000 miles and still going strong! - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my Jeep new in 1998....white/grey leather interior, sunroof, etc. At 215,000 miles it is going strong....I drive a lot! Stellar reliability and design.....have been very lucky. It accommodates grandchildren, the dog and their equipment. Now deciding to "go green", turn it in and buy a Prius.....and Im definitely having a problem parting with my Jeep. Hope this is helpful if youre on-the-fence about purchasing a new or used Jeep?

  • RE: Jeep or Heap? - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive had the exact same issues as the post Jeep or Heap. In October, my 03 JCL stalled on the expressway while driving, which I lost the power steering. It would also shut down and power up like it was going to stall, while I was driving. I took it in to a mechanic, which they kept for 3 days because it couldnt be diagnosed unless it stalled on them so I took it home and of course, it stalled. So they picked it up were able to fix the problem. Unfortunately, it is now doing the same thing again. It bucks and seems to want to lose power but catches again. Im paranoid to drive it for long distances. I also had a problem with the power window failing.
