Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Fun To Drive - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This Jeep is great to drive. Awesome power is what its all about. Other than that is is not roomy enough, rather cheap looking interior, dash, etc. Good sound system. I can live with all of that however, it is a repair nightmare on the drivetrain. The drivetrain has been replaced twice and repaired in between several times! Have had two different dealers do the exact same thing. Outside of that I love it.

  • DONT BUY ONE!!! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This was the second Jeep Cherokee that I have owned, the first was a 1985 2- door Pioneer. This one was nothing but problems, transmission, radiator, stalling, etc... The vehicle was towed twice (the roadside assistance was the only thing I could rely on!). Gas mileage combined never was better than 16.1 mpg. The Goodyear tires spin on the first sign of a damp road. I traded the Jeep with 9,500 miles for a Volvo S60 AWD, awesome car! It will get me through the NE weather just fine without havinf to walk.

  • They Are LEMONS - Buyer Beware - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

    >1yr. old-rotors have been replaced Jeep has been recalled potential fire hazard - transmission jumps, lunges, bangs into gear at almost any speed. Dealership said this is normal for electronic transmission. BS. Safety is a major concern when a 4000 pound vehicle lunges into gear at speeds around 60 mph. DiamlerChrysler has called this violent jerking motion a "burp" and a "bump". Market value is adversely affected by this defect. They tried to fix the defect one time by installing spider gears that did nothing. After that they decided it wasnt a problem after all. Dummies, why try to fix something if nothing is wrong? DO NOT BUY THE NEWER JEEPS

This has been the worst vehicle we have ever owned and are in the process of getting rid of this junk. Poor quality. Since day one the car has had a very hard pull to the right. The Jeep has been to the dealer about 8 times for the pull and for brakes. They have been very uncooperative and told me the pull was normal....yea right.

Luxurius, very powerfull and fun to drive. Comfortable on very long drive (19 hours), as well as very responsive and confident driving in the city. I feel very safe and in control when driving my Jeep. I am very satisfied with it so far in every aspect.

THE 5.9 IS VERY TORKY IT REVS ONLY 4500RPM. IF IT COULD WIND UP A LITTLE MORE IT WOULD BE A HOT ROD. eVERY THING WORKS GOOD I HAVE AN ACURA LEGEND WITH 52000 MILES AND I WOULD TAKE THE JEEP.

  • Love The V8 - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought this Jeep in 1997 with 60,000 miles on it. 11 years later I am still driving it daily and have 235,000 miles on it. The 5.3 L V8 (318ci) mated to the quadra-drive full time 4WD transfer case has been a great setup. It holds the road great regardless of the weather and the V8 has plenty of power. It is also a highly capable off-road vehicle even without big aftermarket tires or a suspension kit. The most significant repair in that time was a transmission rebuild. Otherwise it has only needed an occasional basic repairs that have not been a surprise given the mileage I have put on it.

Bought this Jeep in March of this year with 184k miles on it. Great in rain or snow. Very good brakes for size of vehicle. I love being able to stop it on a dime. So far reliable. Recomend this year to anyone

  • my 1999 jeep grand cherokee 16 year review - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

after 16 years of ownership, heres my take on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo V8 4.7L AUTO/PS/PB/AC/etc. THE GOOD: exterior paint job is EXCELLENT and shows 0 signs of wear ... hats of to the paint department at chrysler on this one ... the interior ... excellent shape (no leather seats, just fabric) ... dash board - not 1 crack ... no weathering ... the interior has held up over the years and is in EXCELLENT shape. 4.7V8 Engine ... good power, been very reliable (1 exhaust manifold replaced), transmission solid ... just a sensor that went that made it shifting from 2-3 gear slip ... of course ive ALWAY ALWAYS ALWAYS changed my oil at 3,500 miles and done the tranny FLUSH on scheduled basis. visibility is awesome, some you CANNOT find today except in a subaru forester. towing is awesome. the size (particularly the length) is spot-on at 181" ... todays mid-sized SUVs routinely occupy the 190+" range ... seats are COMFORTABLE and still hold up - not great on LONG journeys though (500+ mile days). fuel economy is low, but not different than what i expected and it runs on 85 octane. THE BAD: electrical, sensors, water pump, radiator split, CV boots, leaking axles, AC, oil pump sensor, PCM - 3 times thus far and counting ... cannot but an OEM PC M must buy it remanufactored from less than reputable 3rd party suppliers, electrical wires between door jams fail/frayed, sensors, sensors, sensors. all these failures started occuring around the 90k mile mark ... and have consistently nickel and dimed me all the way to the 141k mark (where im currently at). i cannot trust the jeep to go anywhere other than locally in town ... and having paid close attention to the tranny and electrical issues on the 14 JGC (and the fact that chrysler corporate fatcat execs elimanated the rear flip window, something i use EVERY DAY), ill be running with the 2017 4runner when it comes in december 16 ... overall, the jeep has met my needs, but for people who keep their vehicles for a LONG time, dependability/reliability/durability is lacking.

  • Risky buy! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Well I went from foreign to American after 20 years with some good and bad news here for you all. Make sure you do your research and test things with this Jeep. List of my bads: 1. HVAC is horrible watch my video here. Tons of folks complaining about this horrible system! OK this site wont let you post links, go to youtube and search for 2014 jeep grand cherokee hvac issues, mine has a thermometer on the screen. Google-jeep garage heat issues to read all the complaints on that forum 2. Trans in eco sucks, only way to get close to sticker MPG, otherwise getting 20 on the highway out of eco.
