Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Could be worse... - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My wife and I have owned four other Jeeps prior to this one, all of which we were very pleased with. We bought this one and also bought the extended warranty. We have many mechanical problems with this one that we didnt have with the others including new transmission, fuel pump & regulator, axle bearings, taillight assemblies shorting out, warped rotors, calipers that stick, and wind noise. Fortunately, everything has been covered under the warranty. Overall, it has a rock-solid motor, good styling & good value. I am not unhappy with the car, but I would be if we didnt have the warranty. Our warranty runs out in two more years, and we will probably sell it just before that.

Didnt even consider a Jeep when I was looking at new SUVs. The limited model was very smartly styled, black with chrome accents. I wanted a V8 w 4WD, with Nav, bluetooth, memory and heated seats. The 5.7 hemi is terrific, getting 15 mpg city and 17.5 hwy over first 10K miles. steering is precise, suspension is firm but sophisticated, not like a truck (or our 2000 EB Explorer). Brakes are the right balance of pedal pressure and stopping distance. I havent found anything that the 4WD couldnt handle on snowy mtn. roads. The Navi/radio/bluetooth system with voice interaction is very smart and responsive. This car is definitely smarter than I am . This car has been flawless.

  • Maintain Your 1993 - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This vehicle overall has performed just above average. The JGC is a high maintenance vehicle, that is I feel to reduce problems I have over the life of the Jeep had the front/rear/transfer case and transmission fluids changed several times. Also, the transfer case viscous couple was replaced (under warranty), fuel pump and filter, major tune up at 96k, replace injector. The Jeep rides well, interior and exterior parts seem to hold up well.

  • I love my Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is, and has been, the absolutely best Jeep to roll off of Jeeps assembly line. This includes every new Jeep that is out there on Jeep lots today. Now, instead of building an off road Jeep that is just as good on the freeway as it is in crossing streams and rocks; now all they are building is wimpy, slightly bigger, two wheel drive, land yachts that trade performance for gas mileage and are not even trail rated. Really sad. If you are looking for a real Jeep Grand Cherokee, look for a 2005 limited edition with the 5.7 liter engine. That is if you can find one that the owner will let go of. In that area, I do wish you luck! You wont be getting mine!

  • Can you say bigger rotors? - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Got this car new in 2001, and it is by far the most fun car to drive Ive ever had. I love it. Too bad, however, there are so many repairs required. I have had to turn or replace rotors three times now, and this seems to be common among Jeep owners. But there have been other strange problems: Bad lock motor in the hatch, seized lock cylinder in the ignition, bad thermostat, replaced radio, and I just had to replace the drivers seat frame ($400) as it broke free of the mounting riser. I have NEVER had to fix a drivers seat before. This could have been a perfect car, but with horrible mileage (13 mpg city) and chronic bad brakes, its hard to look past all the other problems.

  • Long Term Jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was a "dyed in the wool" GMC owner (1999 GMC Yukon SLT-4WD)until I went shopping.... The Jeep was almost as comfortable (albeit smaller), had more bells and whistles for the $$$, and the price was hard to beat. I have yet to take it on a long trip and the climate hasnt changed in order to test the A/C so "the jury is still out" but if first impressions are important, this JGC-Limited has definitely made a positive one. My wife has a 2000 JGC-Laredo and loves the body style as well as the way it "zips" around so well see if I feel the same after four years of ownership.

  • Never Again... - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We knew we were rolling the dice when we bought this used vehicle based on the reviews. Two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, the a/c started to blow warm air on a road trip. Dealer could not find a problem. Door locks broke soon after. Dealer wanted $370 to fix. Car vibrates above 65 mph. Dealer seems unconcerned about providing solutions to the customer. We have only put 6,500 miles on this car in 10 months. We have traded this car in for a foriegn model. I will never buy another JEEP vehicle again. Build quality is awful and customer service is pathetic!!
