Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Jeep cannot be beaten - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Buying the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was the best design I could have possibly made. This is an incredible vehicle. Capability doesnt shy from the original American Motors Jeeps. I previously owned a 1986 Cherokee and was sad to depart with what I consider the most comprehensive and powerful 4- wheel drive system ever made. But, the 2004 is quiet, very comfortable, and the 4-wheel drive is still just as capable. Not only is it a great ride but it is a gorgeous design. The front fascia has been modified from the 2003 adding circular fog lamps which are excellent in all conditions. I would recommend this car to anyone.

This is my third Jeep. The first two I drove over 100,000 miles, and never had them in the shop for anything more than oil changes and brakes. This Jeep is by far the best of the three. Jeep are no longer just fun, they can go head-to-head with any of the "luxury" car manufacturers.

  • Love it, although its far from perfect - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My Jeep is a 2008 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 with a 3.7L V6 engine. I bought it brand new in 12/08 and got $9,000 worth of rebates and discounts. I havent had any problems with it so far, but I have only put 4,000 miles on it. Therefore, I cannot comment too much on reliability. I will tell you, though, that many of the reliability complaints about the Grand Cherokee relate to 2005-06 models, which had many issues, indeed. However, many of these issues have been fixed for 2007. For 2008, which is the year of my Jeep, the front-end suffered a light facelift and the interior received a major improvement. Some online data show that reliability has improved dramatically with the 07 model.

  • Please issue brake recall!!! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Thank goodness I decided to lease! I leased my JGC because I was reluctant Jeeps reputation for poor reliability ("Its a Jeep thing"). I figured that if I leased, all repairs would be under warranty. At 8000 miles the front brake rotors warped. (5 friends with JGCs ALL had the same problem) Coincidence? I think not. I was past the 12 mo/12K mile warranty on the brakes and had to bully the dealer to make the repair for no charge I was assured I would be charged "when" the rotors warped next time. Jeep has ignored this known problem. The dealer gave me some BS about "Seattle traffic" is hard on brakes. Give me a break! My next SUV will be a Toyota Landcruiser.

  • Out of warranty & out of money - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my second Jeep and it will be my last, nothing but problems (costly repairs). Brakes, rotors, air conditioning, water pump, exhaust, throttle position sensors, coolant leaks, broken seats & terrible stability problems. The Jeep was great for the first four months or so, then it just went downhill fast, it seems to have lost its stability and handling and has required too many repairs. My first Jeep was a 1994 Cherokee Sport, which had very little problems (over 125k) and no stability issues. Maybe I just got a lemon but I wont be taking a chance and buying another one to find out.

  • Caddy with 4x4 and a Mind of its Own - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my JGC 4.7L Limited with 100k miles on it. Fell in love instantaneously with the plush leather seats and all of the luxury amenities. I put 60k miles on it and it nicked and dimed me the entire time. The car left me stranded numerous times, and had to replace many sensors. I was so broke repairing the essentials, before I knew it the dashboard lights were burned out, the heated seats broke, 2 windows motors went and the climate system was shot. Not to mention the car had a mind of its own, the memory seats would adjust to whatever it wanted, the car alarm would go off constantly, but the final straw was when the catalytic converter code came up. Miss her though.

  • 2005 GR Cherokee LTD, 4.7 V8 - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Seats - too firm, only 6 way power. Needs larger side bolsters. Fuel Economy - poor only 12 or 13 - 16, 4.7 V8, MFG rated at 16-21... not even close! Computer was better on overhead (04 model better). Built in GPS, not the best (Alpine), requires expensive DVD upgrade. Several other German touches could have been better.

  • Very Sad - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Our Jeep started bucking and becoming undriveable at 5000 miles. This is intermittent and has caused several delays on family trips. The manufacturer just says, "bad gas". They did extend our warranty to 70,000 miles, free. Big deal, the car is not reliable. They have yet to find the problem. We are going on three years of this. Tomorrow we go to "Lemon Law" court with the manufacturer. Wish us luck.

  • LOVE THE OVERLAND - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

TRADED A MERCEDES ML320 FOR THE JEEP OVERLAND. OVERLAND MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE & POWERFUL & BUILT WITH GREATER LUXURY IN MIND. LOTS OF "BANG FOR THE BUCK." MANY MORE OPTIONS AVAILBLE AT MORE THAN $15,000 LESS THAN MERCEDES ML500 WHICH IS COMPARABLE IN POWER BUT NOT NEARLY AS LUXURIOUS. HAD ONE PROBLEM WITH WARPED BRAKE ROTOR FIXED QUICKLY UNDER WARRANTY.
