This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

We have been very pleased with our Jeep. There has been only 1 problem. The vehicle would jump when accelerating up a small hill while in CC.We wish there was better gas mileage.I am concerned with the Seat Belt Buckles opening in a crash or roll- over. I have written Chrysler and the dealer. We do not back out of the drive-way without buckling up. Because of rear wheel drive and the tendency for SUVs to roll, I dont feel as safe as I did in a our min-van. We are happy with the 7 yr. 100,000 mile warranty. P.S. I always carry a drink cup filled with ice and it is exactly across from the buckle so you can see why I am concerned.

This Grand cherokee is a great truck when it is running, I have had my transmission rebuilt twice under warranty and replaced once, I have had this vehicle back from the dealership for about 10 months and my transmission is going out AGAIN, not to mention that my front end when in 4 wheel drive sounds like It has metal binding when I turn my steering wheel. I bought the extended warranty (thankfully) and will be taking it back in to have it fixed even though the dealership always tries to give it back saying there is nothing wrong with it but in the end they see it my way and start fixing things.

The drivers seat is uncomfortable.Jeep could take a lesson in seat design from Honda. There is a "clunk" in the rear suspension. Ive had it checked out several times. Its blamed on a broken shock, but the shocks are fine. The sound stops when there is about 100lbs placed over the rear end in the cargo area. Also if a light duty shock is used.

We bought the 01 JGC new and now with 86k miles let our college age son buy into it. Loaded Laredo w/leather, 4l i6 with Selectrac. Its been very reliable: of course we replaced the brake pads/rotors @ 35k and 85k mi (2nd time was planned). Also did seat heaters 3 times but under ext warranty. (liked it enough we just bought a new 07 similarly equipped but 4.7v8 for towing). I follow sched a maintenance & have not had problems, our mechanic says the i6 Selectrac is best SUV ever. I would have rated this one higher except its now compared to the new 07, not really fair.

  • Great Vehicle-Wish Dealer Was - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Overall-the car has been excellent. Reliable, responsive, great looking. However, when a warranty item needs service, dealer will try to wiggle out of it. I was told "There is no such thing as a bumper-to-bumper warranty!" And the extended warranty is another joke. Sunroof leaked when car was 100 miles over the 36,000 mile limit. Dealer charges $250.00. I was told by dealer to contact Chrysler...they couldnt help me.

  • Some Good - Some Bad - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased my new 2001 well into 2002 and it was a spur of the moment purchase, which was unfortunate because I should have done more research - I may have passed. Its been a nice ride, but dont expect it to have a long life.

  • Love my Jeep - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is the second Jeep Ive owned and I enjoy this vehicle more than my first. Inferno Red with chrome wheels really makes heads turn. Received many compliments. Love the V8 power. Interior layout is excellent. Controls easy to reach. Sound system cant be beat. Climate control system works well. Seats could use a little more bolstering. Ive had a few minor things go wrong but dealer has stood by extended warranty and fixed without question.

  • Need to improve several problems - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This car has several issues that they should recall. My particular problem has been with the power windows. First you hear a popping noise, then down your windows go and dont come back up until you get them fixed. Ive had to replace two at over $300. I also am having the brakes act up now as mentioned on previous reviews. I like the car in general but improvements need to be made.

  • JEEPERS CREEPERS - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This vehicle has given me nothing but grief since I bought. I bought it brand new, and have continusly had to bring it into the shop for repairs.when you take it in shop, they will not provide you with a loaner vehicle. All my repairs for the most part were warranty covered. But I have had major problems with the brake system. And had replace my brakes 2 times a year, plus my rotors. I know I drive a lot, but this vehicle is suppose to be top quality. Its a car, its made to be driven, and it just. first place. I will never in my life ever buy a Jeep again. I make sure if anyone I know is even thinking about it, that they know what a POS this car is.
