Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Happy with the GC Overland - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By saburk - January 26 - 12:30 pmThis is my 4th Jeep product (2 Wranglers and a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited V8). The Overland is very powerful and the 4WD is great in rain and snow. I love the chrome wheels. The stereo in the 98 Limited was better. Gas mileage is not that bad -- about 15.5 mpg with mixed highway and local travel. Closer to 19 mpg during extended highway driving. My only complaint is the front seats. The leather suede mix is nice, but the seats are not firm enough and too small. The vehicle has some body roll when cornering and the soft seats contribute to a feeling of poor handling.

1st Jeep - suv owner - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By heartland28 - January 25 - 3:39 pmI have purchased this Jeep used with 1,12000 miles on it. I used Edmunds to research & price this SUV I got it for 6k with negotiations & cut the dealers charges - bogus cost add on using the how to buy a used car guide. So I got it for less then TMV I feel really good about it & now feel confident in my new learned skills. This Jeep is great my 1st SUV I wanted Reliability & A Safe ride. Gas mileage is good most vans like my past pile Dodge caravan with a 3.3v6 get about the same as this jeep. Tho both are Chrysler products this Jeep is the bread & butter. Fun to drive, very comfortable, & sticks to road with lots of power drives more like a truck rides better then most vans.

A great car! - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By tucsonguy2 - January 24 - 10:13 pmAfter considering a number of other SUVs, this our 6th new JGC, and it may be the best of the bunch. Quality is perfect so far, the fuel economy is better than the 2005 JGC that was traded-in, and the interior has been upgraded. This is one beautiful Jeep, inside and out, that gets lots of compliments from people we dont even know. It is solid, comfortable, safe, fun to drive, and we love it!

Very Pleased with Grand Cherokee - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By augrpeters - January 24 - 8:36 pmMy 2003 Grand Cherokee has been a wonderful vehicle for me. I have had none of the problems described by other 2003 Grand Cherokee owners. The only part Ive replaced was the Throttle Position Sensor which the dealer paid for. I find my 4.0 full of power and has no trouble keeping up with other vehicles. My A/C still blows ice cold as well as every other feature works like new. As of today my car has 111890 and shows no sign of stopping. I drive with a light foot and average 23.5 mpg on my commute to work. The city mileage is awful but every car other than a Prius is like that. I have yet to get stuck it seems to be unstoppable. Not sure if Ill buy another but it will be another jeep.

Great car but trans lever is horrible! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Phil - January 24 - 5:45 amJust got the car this week. Our old 99 grand Cherokee was on life support. The 99 had served its purpose, hauling, towing, winter driving, but had been troublesome from day one. Reads lots of reviews and it appears things have improved. Got a 2014 with 28k miles, v6, 4wd. Drives nice, quiet, plenty of power and tows our boat very well. Loads of nice features. The car has a heavy, solid feel. But the damn shift lever! What is that about? Its a ridiculous design and it takes total concentration to get the thing in D or R. Maybe well get used to it in time.

Crap - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jeep4weel - January 21 - 10:00 amI have owned 2 1993 grand cherokees. Both had the 5.2 V8. do not get the V8 if it is close to 100,000 miles. both of mine were close to 100,000 when i bought them and both were pieces of junk. They both burned oil. The head gasket on both of them blew. They both lost a ton of power and begun to get horrible gas milage, 8mpg in the city and 12mpg on the highway if i was lucky. Really bad paint jobs too. Both of mine began to have paint chip off of them in nice little sheets. Good looking vehicles, very comfortable to ride in and drive, but get the 4.0 inline 6 engine. It has plenty of power and is an engine that jeep as been using for almost 20 years.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD Limited - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Beaver - January 21 - 10:00 amVery quick & powerful V-8 engine. Handles well in all conditions. Very comfortable leather seats. Had to get one software update to correct the transmission slamming into / out of gear at low speeds. The update fixed it. The drivers side heated seat is broken but still under warranty. The rear cup holder sucks and gets stuck all the time.

Love my Jeep - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Bouker - January 21 - 10:00 amIve had my 2000 since it was new. I could not be more pleased. My wife drives it so I rarely get the chance but I hope in 7 more years when we replace it for her I can finally drive it daily. The in line 6 should still be fine. The people that drive in 6" of snow and want a car feel should stick with the front wheel drive models which should be called SVs or better yet Mini Van. They should save their money and get triple A in case they get stuck in a ditch. Either way they may need to make the call. Jeep has few contenders but many pretenders! Yes I am biased

NEVER AGAIN! DONT BUY JEEP! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By thensum - January 21 - 2:00 amJust had the rotors done again(3x in 3 yrs) brakes, and axle(s) rear and front. This is a big problem for jeep and they dont admit to it. I just spent so much money trying to fix the axle and it still didnt sound right so i junked it and bought a highlander. It was too scary to drive after that. Just didnt feel safe and didnt want to put more money into fixing it. Only 56253 miles on it!! I want a car to last at least 100k. Its too bad, though, because i liked the ruggedness of the jeep but not the quality.
