Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Greatly Dissappointed - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Mychel - February 28 - 10:00 amI purchase my Jeep new in 2001. I have less than 30,000 miles on it, and since I took possession I have had the suv in the shop 7 times for major problems (same ones over and over). The steering column replaced twice, rotors replaced, fuel pump replaced and best of all it goes into the shop again tommorrow for the same problems. I did my homework and gave the dealership a list of the service bullentins I pulled of the internet the last time when I was told since I was a female I didnt know what I was talking about when explaining my issues. Sounds like since I have a lease, I need to just turn my keys in and let them have the headache.

satisfied owner - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By pepper - February 27 - 2:03 amMost driving is local. Two to four trips a year exceeding 150 miles. Great service by dealer, one trip for brake check (recall) and one to replace the battery (warranty).

Worst Vehicle I have ever Owned - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Pete - February 26 - 11:26 pmWe bought the V8, received employee discount, thought we were getting a "good deal". Wrong! Within 3 months needed a manifold gasket replaced. Within a year was in shop no less than 6 times for electrical problems which caused all interior/exterior lights to flash on and off, finally an ignition switch change fixed it. Ball joints replaced due to severe creaking, now at 33,000 it looks like the starter went. This is ridiculous for a vehicle that has this few miles and cost this much. Service at dealership sub par, took complaints to owner, he could care less. (Now sold to another dealer) Now we will take it in the shorts to dump this, not worth what we owe. Will never buy Jeep again!

Its problems have problems - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Don Jeans - February 23 - 9:50 pmIve owned this car for 4 years now. Bought it with 155k on it. First off, the car is a beast. Fast and really thirsty. Would probably beat most going from 20-50 mph. I test drove a BMW M3 this past weekend and honestly the Jeep has more torque. For better performance I sometimes kill the OD switch which bumps up the RPMs. The car is also a beast in the snow. Its almost impossible to get it stuck in anything. That said, Jeep really dropped the ball on its construction. The rear differential is the same as the base model 6 Grand Cherokee and cant handle the torque. The rear end makes this disgusting popping noise off the line and sounds like its about to fall off. All 5.9s have this problem.

3yrs later 61000 miles and still in love - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Terry - February 18 - 5:00 pmI have been in the auto biz for over 20 years. Have seen and driven them all. When I leased my Jeep 3 years ago I never dreamed I would become so attached. It has seen and done it all and never has it let me or my family down. When you first buy any new vehicle it should have good reviews. This is extroardinary to feel this way 3 years later. Great product 61000 miles later changed oil and filter; rotated the tires, air filter once. Its great

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! - February 18 - 4:33 pmI purchased this car with under 30k miles, 2 weeks after purchasing this car it was having transmission issues, not shifting properly. I have been taking this vehicle into dealerships for almost 3 years now, paying the deductible every time, always for the same problem. since then the transmission has only gotten worse. Popping itself into neutral while driving, cannot use the brakes, needing to pull over to turn the car off to get it to work properly. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! It does not like to shift out of 3rd gear. I have replaced several parts on this car. Today was at a stop and all the lights on the dash lit up, everything dinging, going on and off for no reason.

Great Jeep #8 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Partigras - February 16 - 2:00 amI love my Jeep. This is the 8th one Ive owned. I did not like every one of them, but this one is the nicest one. The dealer was pleasant and easy to deal with. I love the V8, much zippier than the 6cyl.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jason Peck - February 15 - 8:30 amI traded in my 2004 Subaru WRX for this vehicle because it was more practical. I have to say that I am very impressed with the Jeep. The engine has substantial power, there is ample cabin space and she handles extremely well for a truck her size. The exterior of the Jeep is beautiful. I have the metallic black model with the black grill and the black side moldings and it is very sharp. People stare at her all the time. I even stare it her all the time. The vehicle is excellent and I highly recommend the Grand Cherokee to anyone who is in the market for an SUV.

A sad farewell - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Pat - February 13 - 6:40 pmIm writing as Im about to take up the Cash for Clunkers option on a new Jeep. I believe that the 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited must have been the miraculous model where Jeep did everything right for about an hour, and out came my wonderful old car. Ive got 152K on a 12 year old model. Not a speck of rust. Original engine. Everything works (with, of course, some replacement expenses over the years) except the passenger side seat heater gave up the ghost 5 years ago. Ive got the straight six, not the V8. It needed a little more room in the back, but I almost cant bear to part with it. Theyre just giving away too much money right now to say "no". Adios with a tear.

2000 Jeep - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By DRT - February 13 - 11:53 amFor the price the quality is not built into the car. Many little but annoying problems. Humming noise from the transmition. Electrical problems with overhead console. This is my second Jeep, I will try another brand next time.
