Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I saw this vehicle and it looked like a good car. Well, I could not have been more wrong. At 90k the transmission needed a full rebuild. At 95k the 4x4 went out along with the exhaust needing replaced. Keep in mind this Jeep never went off road. We only drove it when there was snow in the ground. Shortly thereafter both axles needed replacing. By this point we had had enough. We sold it for $4000 under valuation just to get rid of the thing. Buying that thing was the biggest mistake we have made to date. It just made me realize how much I missed my Nissan Pathfinder. If I were you I would pay a bit more for the Pathfinder ... I think you will be happier in the long run.

Seven years old, 85k miles on, but still runs better than most new SUVs. 0 to 30 - 2.4 s 0 to 60 - 7.3 s. Its affordable, good looking, fast enough, comfortable, very athletic and even with some mechanical problems (but is there a car without problem?) - great Jeep. Maintenance is important. Gas mileage 16 city, 22 hwy. Would buy Jeep again, SRT-8 perhaps.

I am 16,000 miles in my SRT8 and while fuel economy (12.7mpg average) stinks, it is a ton of fun to drive. A little stiff if you are in the backseat for anything over 15 minutes. On a down note, I had to have a rattle fixed at 1200 miles, the side door panel is installed slightly tilted and I see it every time I look in the side mirror which bugs me. Worst of all the brakes needed to be replaced at 15,900. Because of the Brembo brakes you cant get normal "lifetime" warranty brakes. You have to get the Brembo pads which have no guarantee. All in, brake pads and to have the rotors cut cost $1100. Ouch, will have to do it again most likely in another 15,000 miles.

  • Definitly an Enjoyable Car - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought our Jeep in Dec 2004 and got the great "employee pricing"so we got the loaded Lmtd. for only 33k. The navigation has gone out - twice. Rear wiper broke off - twice. Had leather seat re-done, etc. We have had a lot of problems with the car, but the car is a luxury vehicle at an economy price. We had a BMW which required constant care, this in comparison has not been a real problem. I do think the trans. is about to go though. Its been sticking a lot lately. But really, for the amount of time I spend in the car, it has held up pretty well. The chrome rims and inferno red color get looks all the time. Money in repairs has been reasonable so far, I dont think its worse than other cars.

Overall a great SUV! This is my second Grand Cherokee, and I have had very few major repairs. I did have to have the tranny overhauled, but that was close to 100,000 miles. The 4x4 is great (I think my 95 was a little better), but for our tough winters it is a must!

I have had several different suvs in the past. I must say that this has been my favorite. This is the second grand cherokee i have had. My other one was a 2002 the only reason i traded it was that the lease was up. I love the handling, and the comfort. I put alot of miles on my vehicle so it is nice to have a safe and reliable vehicle. So far i have put 6000 miles on this one and i have had no problems.Love the jeep

  • Great Overland experience - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 5th Jeep and the best. Major improvements over the older Grand Cherokees are engine performance of the new HO V-8 with improved HP and torque. The transmission is a much improved 5 speed automatic. The low end torque is great. The ride is improved but still lacks smoothness. The sound level is much improved. The Navigation is much better than the older style CD based Jeep Pod. The engine idle is a little rough but acceptable. The seats are great and provide good support and comfort. The vehicle is very functional and good looking.

  • Shoddy resale can benefit you! - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Considering that my 95 Grand Cherokee stickered at 27 grand when new, I got a great deal at only 11 grand. The build quality is very solid, I have no rattles no shakes and handling is great. I used the 4wd quite extensively last winter and it functions without any problems. The ride can be a bit rough off the pavement but the ground clearance is great. The gas mileage has been between 18-20 mixed and the 4 liter has more than enough power for me. On the freeway, passing is not a problem but crosswinds can be a problem. Great vehicle overall.

  • Nothing like a Jeep! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I love my 2001 Laredo w/4WD! Have owned 4WDs in the past but none performed as well offroad as the Jeep. Ive found myself in some sticky situations since buying it but my Jeep has always saved me. While not the most luxurious of vehicles inside, youd be hard-pressed to find an SUV made more SOLIDLY than a Jeep. Here in the south, I put it into P/T 4WD while driving in rainstorms & have never even slid, let alone hydroplane; always a problem w/prev cars. The folding seats & roomy cargo area let me fit just about anything in the rear easily. None of my prev SUVs made me feel more safe or secure than this one. We plan to always own a Jeep from now on!

  • NO BACKING ON PRODUCT - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I HAVE TWO GRAND CHEROKEES. MY WIFE AND I ENJOY EACH OF THEM. HOWEVER THE BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEM IS THE BIG DRAW BACK. THE MANUFACTURER DOES ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A PROBLEM AND IS ONLY ISOLATED TO A CERTAIN NUMBER. BOTH OF MY JEEPS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND CHANCES ARE YOU DO TOO. MAKE YOUR REPORTS AND DOT LET THEM PUSH US AROUND.
