Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Nice vehicle. - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By ladibuugs7 - July 11 - 10:00 amYouve gotta love a Jeep. The gas milage is not great but what do u expect in a SUV. Jeep did a great thing when they put the spare tire under the luggage space and out of the way.

Love my new Cherokee - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JodyK - July 11 - 10:00 amThe handling and ride of the vehicle is excellent. My previous car was a Buick LeSabre and the Cherokee is just as comfortable. The cabin is very roomy and everything is laid out pretty well.

Great Design, Mechanics Questionable - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By slim - July 10 - 1:30 pmBought used with 32,000 miles. Transmission began to leak from a bad seal but was covered by warranty. Transmission also does not feel like it shifts properly, with hesitation especially on an incline. Check engine light came on just after warranty went out, unsure of the problem. Fuel mileage is good for an SUV, 22 mpg on long trips 17 in town. Ample room, I am 64" and am comfortable, except if the car seat is behind me then it is very cramped. 4wd is great in the snow.

maintenance nightmare - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jo - July 9 - 3:10 amOnly drive 5,700 miles/year. 43,815 miles when I bought in 1999. Replaced differential, power steering pump, rear hatch supports, water pump, power steering pump, manifold, unplugged drain for a/c. Headliner is falling down, door panels coming off. My ABS light stays on and computer shows it to be "ABS pump motor circuit" Normal maintenance items replaced were battery and serpentine belt. Is it me, or is this a high maintenance vehicle? 77,850 miles now.

Another one to add to the bunch - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By MM - July 6 - 6:36 amI purchased my 07 Jeep brand new. It has had one MAIN issue for 2 years- the slow to accelerate/transmission issue. Along with this issue is a constant on/off of check engine light. On several occasions, Im driving & the car will suddenly lose acceleration and all of my gear options are blocked out IE: P, d, r, n as if the car doesnt know which gear it to be in. I have to pull over, turn it off and back on. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. A year ago after my 4th trip to the dealership with 31,000 miles on it they FINALLY replaced the Elec. Shift Module-said it was a government covered warranty? A year later -started all over again.Dangerous as hell and What a LEMON!

MY 2008 JGC IS GREAT! - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By RON - July 5 - 9:53 amI bought my JGC in Aug of 08 and have now had it 6 mos and put 14,000+ on it. The ONLY problem I have had is to replace the RF window regulator. When I picked it up it had no problems for warranty repair and none since til the regulator. Drives great and gets up 26 mpg on the hwy and 18 to 22 in town. The roof, due to the sunroof, is too low, but otherwise I love it. The only other problem: the reset for the trip computer is on the steering wheel and is too easy to accidentally hit getting in or out and you inadvertantly reset it without knowing it! Put the reset on the dash. So far, it has no rattles or odd noises. This is my 3rd Jeep and by far the best. Good acceleration.

Not Sure Whether to Trade In - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By blazin65 - June 27 - 10:18 pmIve had my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with all the extras and V8, since March 2011. Overall Ive been pretty pleased with this vehicle. Im debating now on whether to trade it in for 2014. So I have been reading reviews on Edmunds of the 2014. The only issue I have had that has been a pain in the 2011 has been the cruise control. It has been in the shop 3 times to get it fixed. I have found through experience that if I slam the steering wheel up and down with the tilt steering, it will become operable again. Its some kind of wiring issue. Ive told the service department this, but they just replace the whole mechanism. But overall, as Ive said, its 9 of 10 stars.
