Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I have never done anything to it other than put one set of tires, one battery, and changed the oil. Great car.

  • Great Off Road and On Road - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I wanted a capable SUV for weekend camping, trail riding, and exploring. To complicate matters, I also wanted luxury ride, classic looks, and serious horsepower for time on the open road. After research, I chose the Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 Hemi with offroad/towing packages. With 5900 miles, Ive made these observations: Off Road: Handles sand (beach), rocky/muddy trails (camping) with no drama -- on stock tires. Even while running through mud it makes it easily on stock tires. On Road: Quiet ride, good leather quality, great audio, and accelerates like a sportscar. There is some headtoss over bumps, but overall much better than my previous 03 Grand Cherokee Overland. The controls are intuitive.

  • Its come a long way! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had three previous Jeep Grand Cherokees and this one, by far, it the best. People are AMAZED by the comfort of the seats, the ride, the power, and its true advantage in the snow (QuadraDrive System). Although I had problems with 1999 and 2000 models, the 2002/2003 has come a long way. For the money, it needs some updated "toys" in the interior to compete with the BMW/Mercedes/Lexus most notably integrated GPS, but its coming. Drive it! If you dont, youll be excluding one of the most comfortable SUVs on the market. As for gas mileage - we just drove from CT to Florida and averaged 19.2MPG the entire trip. Excellent for a high- output V-8.

  • Not worth the investment - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought a used 2002 GC Limited with less than 50k miles in 2008. JGC is pretty reliable and fun to drive since its more truck than car and I enjoy Limited features of leather heated front memory seats, power mirrors, power sunroof, 4WD as well as having a tape deck and rear 10 disk cd changer. But like other reviewers I have experienced numerous repairs and the poor gas mileage that make the vehicle not worth owning. Repairs: several coolant leaks and had to replace driver side power window motor in addition to routine maintenance. Frustrated with poor gas mileage, memory seat malfunction, rubber coming off of doors, and lack of side window defogger. I prefer Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot

2000 Grand Cherokee is our 3rd Jeep. Daily driver and regular offroader, now has 195,000 miles after owning 5 years. Only addition was a 2 inch spring lift with Bilstein shocks all around. This has been a very reliable 4X4 that is used regularly off road for work and vacation off roading camping adventures from the deserts of So Cal to the Rubicon trails of Lake Tahoe. Typically tow tent trailer packed for 5 with bikes. Only disappointment was a stuck park/Drive shifter that would not go into park so we could not remove ignition key while on a 2 week trip to Omaha. Still running original water pump, axles, trans and other items that can typically wear out. Great all around vehicle, highly recommended.

  • I love my Jeep Overland but. - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My JO has not caused me any problems. I love my Jeep, but it seems like every third vehicle is a Jeep.I think a redesign is due, because my Jeep just does not turn heads. For $39000, I just want a little more WOW! I know that sounds shallow - but hey. My boyfriend just bought an H2. On the way home, I followed in my Jeep. Folks were constantly looking at his vehicle and didnt even notice the Jeep Overland. What takes the cake is .. a couple of neighborhood kids screamed nice truck to him, guess what I got.I know the H2 is something different and the "wow" will wear from that vehicle. But for now, Im looking into the FX45.

  • Disappointed - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is our 2nd Jeep. Surprised that fuel economy is 13.5 vs 17 in identical model from 5 years prior. We have it in for warranty work 6-8 times fro things such as quacking door locks (2 different doors), brake rotors (4x), ext. rear view mirror memory lapses. this will be the last American car that we buy.

  • Awesome Overland - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have 28,000 miles on 2002 Inferno Red JGC Overland. No problems at all since purchase August 2002. Absolutely the best all around vehicle Ive ever owned. I drive approx 36000 miles/yr and expect this truck to last 7-10yrs.

  • HEMI BEAST - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Im the third owner of my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the Hemi option. At roughly 131,000 miles it still runs like a dream. Its common to hear that these Jeeps run into mechanical issues but Ive had no such misfortune (knocks on wood). What can I say? Its an all around extremely capable SUV. The interior is simple and spacious (Im 66), the only change I needed to make was adding a new Kenwood radio. And for its size and rugged Jeep reputation its an extremely comfortable ride. As the title entails the HEMI is a plus, especially if you regularly tow like me. The only negative aspect of this SUV is how hard it hits your wallet at the pump, its just too tempting to slam that gas pedal at every stop light to hear that big V8 roar.

  • fun offroad and on road - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

No major hitches, with little mods It did Moab wonderfully. On road quiet and roomy. Best front seats of anything I have sat in. Modest 6 banger performance is sufficient. Plan on keeping it till I cant find parts.
