Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

The best of what we are made of? - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By racing_s2k - November 20 - 2:28 amTo make a long story short, I picked up my 2014 JGC on June 13 with 12 miles. Made a right out the dealer lot and the radio (8.4a) would not stop flipping. Transmission would not shift out of first gear. Took it right back to the dealer. The steering column sensor was bad, which controls the radio and transmission. This part had to be approved and shipped by Chrysler. It took over a week for the dealer to receive the part, and another couple days to install the item and test the vehicle. I understand that mistakes happen and you can not expect perfection. However, a DOA vehicle, Chryslers taking so long to repair a vehicle, and other little defects cause me to questions the build quality.

Great Car - but not the cheapest - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By GeoffreyG - November 19 - 10:23 amPurchased my 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (V8 5.2 L) in the summer of 02 with 96,000 miles on it from Valley Dodge in Boulder, CO. 2 weeks after I bought it, it needed some repairs - the starter and a couple of factory recall items as well. Other fixes throughout the years - Power Steering, Idle Motor, A/C Pump, Coolant Sensor, 4x4 Switch, Power Window Switch, Battery (2x), ext Paint, and other minor interior items, but overall the engine has continued to run like a champ at 160K+ miles now - and not even an oil leak! The interior is loaded (...with things that can break...) and power everything, AWESOME for city driving or off-roading - would recommend the Limited model over other models.

Much Better - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Ed S - November 18 - 10:20 pmThis is my third Jeep and by far the best. It is much quieter then my previous Jeeps. It also handles much better on the road (I have not had a chance to get it off road yet). I am tall, 63" and there is less head room in the 05 compared to my 00. I have a sun roof I would suggest considering not getting one if you are tall. I have 10,000 miles on it already and am averaging 17 miles to the gallon. Seats are a little small and flimsy feeling, same as my previous Jeeps. I have had no mechanical problems to date. The Boston Acoustics sound system is great as well as the one year free satellite radio.

Range Rover Worthy! Worth EVERY Penny. - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By 4WHEELER - November 18 - 5:56 pmThe 2011 JGC Overland is the best vehicle I have ever driven. The ride, handling, interior refinement, exterior detail, paint luster, amenities and performance are unsurpassed. First rate materials inside and out! The pearl-coat paint is suburb. Rich authentic interior wood accents; sumptuous leather seating areas, dashboard surfaces and door trimmings are unheard of in such an affordable vehicle; and the contrasting color carpeting is gorgeous, appropriately tough and pleasant on ones feet. Everything rivals the costlier Range Rover. The large panoramic sunroof lights up the high quality interior whether opened for fresh air or closed. The sunshade is smooth to operate when need be. Sharp!

Overall is a great car. - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Walter Dandridge - November 18 - 6:45 amThe thing I liked most about it was the handling and driving on the highway. Didnt use it off road so dont know how it would perform but does well in snow. The electronics would occasionally not work, back up screen would go to a blue screen and not work. The rear view mirror on the drivers side obscured vision when turning corners. Would probably purchase another one.

piece of crap - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By ex-jeeper - November 16 - 10:00 amThis jeep has been the worst automobile in my life. Everything has been replaced at least twice. Dont pay attention to any warranty because it will break again when it gets out.

Getting a bad rap - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jack Nicely - November 16 - 8:53 amThis SUV does everything I expect from it. I dont get stuck when ever I feel like going over the curb and off the beaten path. It is an excellent car for my wife to lug the groceries or carry her Avon products. It is a comfortable ride for longer trips, 6-8 hours, and plenty of packing space. Pulls my small trailer just fine. Brakes and steering work fine, the ride is comfortable. It still feels new after 70,000+ miles. Interior gadgets are easy, such as the seat maneuvering or seat belts. My gas mileage isnt bad for a 6 cylinder, about 26 mpg. Maintenance has been minimal. It is a pleasure to take out and drive, plenty of pick up speed. The only problem we have is with the dealership maintenance

One Fine XJ - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Chuck - November 14 - 12:16 amBought used, private party in 05 w/53k miles. Have replaced water pump and front brakes and rotors. Using ceramic rotors is a big help and so is upgrading the rotors with all of the reported problems. This solves them all. Am about to replace front tweeters. OEMs had problems. Also have a 90 YJ w/263k mi. Jeeps are tough, but theyre not perfect. Havent had a vehicle that was, but Jeeps are among the best out there. Like any vehicle, maintenance is extremely important. In reality, there are a few bad vehicles, but mostly bad owners that the vehicles take the blame for. Use common sense and good maintenance practices and itll treat you well. Would definitely buy another.

3rd Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Kevin Straight - November 12 - 10:50 amThis is my 3rd new Jeep since 1996. The first, a Cherokee Country impressed me immensely, giving nearly trouble free service during 6 years of ownership. Replaced by a 2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0 engine. I was happy with the design but mechanical problems, while never putting it out of service, were exasperating. The fuel mileage was underwhelming too. This new Grand Cherokee Laredo offers better ride, better build quality, much better performance with a 4.7 V8, and (believe it or not) better fuel economy! My one gripe is that for an extra $225 the paint quality should not exhibit the flaws I have found.
