Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

looks good...runs bad - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Ryan - November 26 - 9:33 amBought in 05 with 65,xxx miles on it. Other then routine maintenance, just switched out the alternator. Been through 3 serp belts,no idea why. CD player is crapping out on me. Front two speakers are going out. Cooling fan went out at 89,xxx. At 126,xxx, needing new relay switch, A/C light wont come on unless the defrosters are on. Alignment keeps going out. Rear axle keeps leaking. Fuel pump is starting to go out. All not major problems...but when they add up it gets annoying. My favorite part is that the car leaks water every time it rains. The weather stripping is fine except for around the sunroof. No mechanic I know can figure out why it does...

I could have done better - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By gamma500 - November 26 - 12:33 amLeased this Limited 4.7 AWD..at 1,600 miles had catastrophic transmission failure not uncommon with the Daimler 300 series auto tranny. Opted for new Jeep replacement after they wanted to give back original with drivetrain removed and replaced. 2nd vehicle had a locked rear caliper so I got new rear brakes after a few miles. So-so gas mileage and typical V-8 (USA style) performance, i.e. mediocre which WOT producing a lot of engine thrashing noise but little acceleration. Large A pillars and bulky rear view mirror setup makes for large forward, lt/rt. blind spots. Interior plastic soft and easily scratched, like "soft" exterior paint. Comfortable seating, moderate rear leg room,

Not bad, Not bad at all. - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Justin Brown - November 25 - 7:03 pmI recently purchased a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 65th Anniversary Edition with the 4.7 Liter V8. I do a lot of highway driving an was instantly impressed with the Gas Mileage. I average 20, sometimes event 21/22 in a V8! (and i am a 23 yr old male, so believe me when i say i dont really baby it) The city gas mileage i average around 16/17, which is "ok". I mean it is a V8, cant expect a lot. I love the power the V8 offers, and the towing capabilities. The looks are sleek, and I always get compliments. I HATE the seat belt chime doesnt turn off. Overall I am really happy with the purchase, I have had it for about (2) months now and no real complaints so far.

call me a fool - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jlh452 - November 24 - 10:40 amcall me a fool. I have owned 5 Jeep Cherokees/Grand Cherokees over the years. This one is by far the worst of the bunch. With 21,000 miles, I have had 4 rear pinion seal leaks, 1 transmission leak, faulty front brake rotors (I had to pay 50% of the cost to replace the warped rotors since I had over the 12,000 brake warranty), a relay replacement so that the rear flipper glass would operate, a transmission recall where a vent tube had to be installed to prevent potential engine fire and lots of other aggravation. The vehicle does ride nicely...especially from home to the dealership for service. Gas mileage is poor. Never again-this is why the domestic car producers are losing to the imports.

Dont buy this vehicle! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jim - November 24 - 4:10 amI purchased my Jeep with 20K miles and at the time thought it was a good investment. Ive owned it for 4 years now and its been in the shop at least a half dozen times for electrical related problems. First the lights wouldnt work, then the automatic windows, then the bucking and stalling, now its the directionals. These are cheap fixes either. Each trip to the shop seems to cost $400. This is the least reliable vehicle Ive ever owned. Ill never buy another Chrysler product and neither should anyone else.

Best suv i have ever rode in! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By rozzyroz - November 22 - 3:03 pmThis is the third JGC that we have owned since 1999. we have had a 1999, 2002 and this 2005. the 2002 had a steering pump hose burst on a -20 degree day, but i guess you would have to expect that.. the other two have never had any problems. we have long commutes to work and school for my son, when we had to replace the 2002 after an accident, we decided to try other suvs...after all the test drives, we both agreed that none of them stacked up to the jeep. the leather interior, the 4.7 v8, the sunroof.. all awesome. looks great, and drives even better. we get some nasty snow in the Ohio area, so we are thankful that jeep offers such a superb 4 wheel drive in a great package!

Beautiful, powerful, but frequently in the shop - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By costeld - November 21 - 7:09 amUntil the 2011 Grand Cherokee was released I thought the 2004 was the best looking year of the best looking bodystyle. Has robust suspension and agressive approach and departure angles for offroading (though most are just daily commuters). Interior on the Overland was very nice and had unique styling. Nice engine/exhaust note, felt more powerful and faster than its 265 bhp rating. Good towing ability: 5000 lbs hardly noticable.

Dont buy one - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JEEPJUNK - November 21 - 2:00 am118,000 miles and Im on my second transmission and it now needs to be rebulit. I have the full time 4X4 and its a gas hog. 16 mpg on the highway. Ive heard from others with Grand Cherokees and they also have put transmissions in within the 100,000 mile range. 99% of my driving is highway and no offroading so you cant blame the driver for a crappy trans. Stay away from Jeep. Buy foreign. It may cost more up front but will last longer.

[non-permissible content removed] - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By johnoyed - November 20 - 5:41 am5 time jeep owner, Lease 2011 jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Warning lights start blinking , Hard time starting, rear cam doesnt work. They say its the mother board. Under warranty- Great!!. BUTTTTTTT it will take 2 weeks to get it and they will not give me a free rental. Im paying lease, insurance, garage on a car that is out of commission for 2 weeks because of warrantied parts and they want me to pay for rental car. So i guess a warranty doesnt mean anything. Last time having a jeep.
