The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • VERY Pleased - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my 2005 Jeep back in october of 2010 with only 31,000 miles on it. the previous owner had this vehicle LOADED and we got a great price for it. it has been nothing but PERFECT for us. the only thing it didnt come with was the tow package so we bought an aftermarket hitch receiver (Curt) and it looks wonderful and works amazing. we have not had a single problem with this vehicle. the ride is smooth which is something i didnt expect. the gas mileage is to be desired, but its worth it for the ride and functionality of the 2005 JGC!

The ride is excellent but the mileage is around 17-18 mpg. Overly wide but length is perfect. Interior room is good but lack of map pockets on my model and the rear cup holders are poorly placed. Tilt wheel feature is poor. Nooks are few and small to place items.

  • Love my Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have owned my Jeep Grand Cherokee for only a few months, and I love it dearly. It is fun to drive, easy to handle, and very comfortable. My only complaint is the gas mileage. I am getting about 15 in the city and 21 on the highway. I drove a Honda Accord prior to the purchase of my Jeep. Even though there is no comparison on gas mileage, I STILL LOVE MY JEEP!

  • Solid car, happy buyer & owner - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

At 5k miles and glad I went with the Grand. I had also looked the 4Runner and the Pathfinder and had made the decision to go Nissan until Jeep offered incentives that brought the Ltd. Grand with V8 in cheaper than the high end Nissan. Overall, Im very happy with the car. Its a pleasure to drive. Though somewhat boat like at times in its billowy suspension response, thats a plus for me though as this is going to be a baby hauler. Soft=good. The MDS system is seamless but hasnt had as much of impact on MPG as advertised and can be stingy to give back the V8 when in a pinch to accelerate. Interior is plush & comfortable and gets an undeserved bad rap in reviews.

Unacceptable exhaust resonation/vibration from Hemi engine. Chrysler has no fix. Random electrical problems & no fix.

  • The last real 4x4 - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The all wheel drive 4.7 v8 gets about 14-15 city mpg I think that is perfect if you live in a climate where all wheel drive is needed. The car has perfect power, steering ability and off road performance. I had a 1997 grand cherokee and I can say jeep has come a long way perfecting it. All the way around it is a very good car!!! Its now at 175,600 miles and all I have had to replace is 2 raiditor hoses, brakes, bulbs, and fluids!!!! It is a very strong suv!!! Ive had it for 3 years now and will never get rid of it

  • 2005 Grand Cherokee Great Buy - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We looked at and drove Toyota 4Runner, BMW X5, Land Rover LR3 and several other midsize SUVs before buying the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. We love the ride, power and agility of the Hemi powered GC. The fully featured GC with Nav, auto dimming head lights and redesigned front suspension is a joy to drive. Take one for a test drive, you wont be sorry.

  • Performs flawlessly and gets me anywhere - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am a hunter and use this Jeep a lot and use it hard. Even with the 4x4 Quadtrac 1 system, it gets me through the mud, sand, deep water, through brush and up and down hills great. I never get stuck. Not quite a Wrangler in some manners but almost and it rides like a champ. Very comfortable, good gas mileage, 18 mpg in town and 23 on one trip. Great in the snow also. I have 36,000 miles on my jeep now and its running great. My last one went 275k until tranny needed work. Sold it to employee with 330k and is still running great.

  • Wish we didnt buy a defective Jeep... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

No matter the make or model of any car, there will always be cars with many problems and some who never have any! Luck of the draw. Well, we didnt luck out. Weve had nothing but problems. Everything is under warranty, and there was a recall (no big deal), but its already been back to the dealer for the following: replaced the torque converter, roof leaks, fuel sensors died, had to replace entire gas tank, had to replace the starter, shakes at certain speeds, and even stalls out at times. Transmission is HORRIBLE. Seems like a lot of problems to have within the first year. We were excited to buy the Jeep (both of us being previous Jeep owners), and wish we bought one that wasnt defective!
