Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Tantalizing 2017 Trailhawk - 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By CarlB - January 10 - 1:29 amIn looking for a reliable, comfortable, trail rated SUV that had a level of luxury to it, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk was the only choice to carry all of the above in this class of vehicle. While the test drive only gave me a taste of its capabilities, our first road trip demonstrated the luxury, safety, comfort and handling I was looking for. While Im still in the infancy of the lease of this car, so far it leans on the plus side though I do have a couple of quirks to mention. The technology of the U-Connect system while, at first glance, seems great. It has a few drawbacks. Im an avid iPhone user and the connectivity and memory of this system isnt up to par. After programming my phone favorites into the onboard memory, it loses them every new restart. The programming and connection of Pandora through the U-Connect site (as well as iHeart radio etc.) is clunky and Pandora has to be re-selected after each start. Having previously owned a Honda product, their system reconnected each time quite reliably. So Chrysler has some work to do on that. My other quirk is the marginal, at best, fuel mileage. While it performed to the expected and advertised 23-25 mpg on our first road trip, the city mileage has been around 11.5-12.5 mpg. Realizing that it depends on your driving habits, Ive been ultra-conservative to see what its capable of (read "Im keeping my foot out of it) and have been perplexed at its gas gulping nature, though thanks to a big tank capacity, I dont notice it that much...until its time for the refill. Overall, Im a happy camper though! And looking forward to actually pulling a camper soon and challenging the Trailhawk with some serious California exploration.

Great SUV for a Sportsman - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By The muddy Polaris Sp - January 9 - 2:00 amVery nice SUV for the guy that likes to play outdoors, like me. Plenty of room for camping supplies for camping trips. Can put my racing road bicyle in the back hatch area with the back seat down for are bike trips. Also great for are golf trips. We are big into ATVing these days so its also great for towing are Polaris Sportsmans around with plenty of room for are supplies in the back.

Limited Options and Performance - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By mtnmeister - January 9 - 2:00 amWe bought the Jeep as other SUVs became too car-like. We knew what we were getting, had modest expectations, and they have not been exceeded. Not very high praise for a $40K vehicle! Jeep didnt offer a 5 manual transmission option, and the automatic transmission simply sucks - I will not by another Jeep for this reason alone. Once we got past some intital quality problems (loose cables, etc), the vehicle has ptherwise performed well (except for the poor gas mileage).

Where to go - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Transmission Problem - January 7 - 11:10 amI bought my forth JGC last Fall. A disappointment for sure. The first two JGC I bought were sturdy, spirited and were mostly maintenance free. I bought a 2005 JGC vehicle (used w/20K miles), the transmission failed within two weeks. I was able to get it refurbished under a recall notice. This car continued to be a problem with leaking transmission and delayed/sluggish acceleration. I traded this one in for a new 2007 JGC believing that my former problems were because that vehicle was used. Not true. My new JGC sporadically has had strange transmission problems. On two occasions the transmissions cutout during a rain storm, the dealer has not been helpful.

Great Entry SUV w/a few nec. upgrades - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jason - January 6 - 9:33 pmThe Laredo w/leather and heated seats, Infinity Gold sound package, selec trac, moon roof, and cd chngr is a great buy and drives nicely. The upgraded 235 65 17 tires are hard to find cheaply. The optional 245s are better on the SUV in Ohio climates. For the money, the Laredo with upgrade options is a great vehicle and you dont need to pay for the "limited" markers unles a V8 is absolutely nec. Laredo does have a V8 option with out the Limited price.

Comfortable on road, not suited for extreme off-roading! - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By gavin10 - January 2 - 1:13 pmI reside in Dubai, UAE and purchased this vehicle after reading reviews and watching several adverts about how the car performs well off-road. The truth - it cannot do well on major sand dunes. Around 10+ of these have had damaged radiator/condenser units after being driven offroad because of sudden jumps. Even the Overland model has had bad luck here. Thru insurance i got my radiator replaced, but weeks later overheating problems occured for which Jeep/Chrysler could not figure out why - so they changed the whole engine under warranty! Still didnt fix the issue! Later found that the coolant compartment was leaking! Extremely poor reliability of this vehicle. Jeep UAE admits it shamelessly.

Never Again - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By neva - December 31 - 3:56 amThis JGCL was my first ever American car and i assure you all it will be my last. My first inspection a rear shock was bad. A year into my lease brakes and a fuel sensor went. 18 months into my lease transmission slipped. After four visits to the dealer and being rebuilt twice its still giving me problems. Do not buy this car. Thank God I leased it!
