Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Do not buy a Jeep - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We purchased this Jeep because my wife fell in love with it and we had a little one on the way. Guess what. I recently went to turn our baby seat front facing. It will not fit on right or left sides- has to be in the center. The headrests are NOT removable and at such an angle that they prevent the child seat from being installed at the right angle. Not to mention the gas mileage has been no better than 14.5 (mixed driving) and 15 hwy. Good news is that it does not seem to change if I am towing or not! I do not think cylinder deactivation works either. Also we have had so many wind leaks and noises. To sum it up- WHAT A MISTAKE! Poor engineering, high price and unsafe for my baby!

  • I love my Jeep - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my third Jeep. I love the ability I have to haul lots of stuff in it. I am an avid gardener and an antiques dealer who hauls around lots of furniture and plants. This car is wonderful for that. I like it better than any of my family members SUVs by far.

  • I will never buy a Jeep again! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this car in 2004 and have already had to rebuild the engine (cost me $7500) and fix the heat. The heat was completely out and cost me $1500. Everytime something else goes wrong, it doesnt surprise me, I guess it is to be expected. I have a lot of other problems as well. So, I guess I have a brand new car, it only has about 3000 miles on it and I paid more for the repairs than the car was worth. I will NEVER buy a Jeep or a brand affiliated with Jeep again!!! I was informed by the mechanic that has done all my repairs (he used to work for Jeep) that Jeep Cherokees only have a life expectancy of 125K miles, thats crazy!

I have had this car for almost two years now and have recently reached 111,000 miles. Within these past two years, I have put a little money into keeping this thing running smooth, but I understand its a jeep, and old jeep and these things will happen. Mine has the 318 V8 which makes this thing fast and makes towing heavy trailor loads a breeze. The spare tire in the back gives me more vertical space than if it were mounted under the car, and vertical space is what I need.

  • Save your rebate to pay your repair bill - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am currently trying to figure out how to get rid of this vehicle. I have alot of time to do this since it is in the shop with transmission problems again. I have had the brakes redone 4 times in 53k miles, the transmission is currently out, and we have had various electrical problems along the way. It has been 8 times that I can think of in 53 k miles. I had a Honda and a Toyota before this with no problems. I will never buy a Chrysler product again. If you buy this vehicle, buy a good extended warranty (0 deductible), because even $100 deductible adds up. And save your rebates and incentives. Youll need them.

  • Looks Nice, but Poor Quality - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The Jeep seemed great at first, but now at 800 miles the UConnect System is horrible. The screen often turns black or freezes. The GPS sometimes shows the Jeep several hundred miles from the actual location. The clock doesnt keep the correct time so we have to update the clock at least once a week. We have also started getting a red screen saying the phone needs service that flashes on the screen, but then disappears. If we knew what we know now, we would have never bought the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. We spent a lot of money on something that is now just a pain and already headed back to the dealership for service.

  • Good and Bad Jeep - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Love the Jeep - BUT, has cost me a lot of money this last year. Bought it used from a dealership 3 yrs ago. This year I needed new pistons b/c they were cracked = $1800. Also needed new U- Joints = $350 and the A/C died over the summer. My husbands 1996 Nissan Maxima has 225k miles and he hasnt had a single problem with it! Im unloading it soon and buying an import.

  • Warrantee Magic - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

All you have to do is spend $2,000 on the extended warrantee like I did. They must have flipped the reliability switch on mine when I paid for it, because in 88,000 miles Ive had almost no problems other than 3 (count em 3) fuel gauges. I love the car, but talk about depreciation! Never again.

  • LOVE my Jeep except for ONE thing ... - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I got this Jeep back in April and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. Except ... the transmission went out and its costing me $2100 to fix. Yikes! The Jeep has 129k on it, but everything else works just fine. Love my Jeep! Will definably buy a newer one for my next car. :)
