Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I have owned 6 new vehicles in the past. This is only the second one (the other was a volvo) that I really enjoy driving. It is quiet, comfortable, controls where they should be. When I push the gas pedal I get a smooth effortless increase in speed. The sound system is great, the nav system could be easier to set, but the screen is easy to see and it works fine. I had thought of buying a BMW or Lexus, but in test driving I thought I was getting more SUV for the money with the Jeep. I really like it and am glad I bought it.

  • I love my Jeep, but it hates me - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this vehicle with 92000 miles on it and now has 147000 miles I love this vehicle. People rather have a Grand Cherokee or they want one. . I have just about $25000 in my Jeep even though I bought it for only $16000. That means that about $9000 have been spent on repairs, replacement of parts (some more than once).extremely horrible gas mileage, in town or on the highway, burns oil, just fixed a major oil leak. If I were to fix every single thing wrong with this vehicle, I would probably be able to say that I have $40000 invested in this vehicle which is pretty much the price of a top of the line brand new Grand Cherokee Limited 2003 model year.

  • Nice Truck! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased this vehicle with 50,000 miles and 13000 miles later, I have no major complaints. It rides nice and the air is amazing...a very high quality to have for a Florida driver. I have had a few minor problems that have been outrageously expensive to repair, and the gas mileage could be much better (about 15mpg in town), but I should have known what to expect when switching from a little Lebaron to a 4X4 SUV. Overall, I would buy another Jeep and would recommend them to anyone interested in a decent SUV for a low price. The 4X4 is the excellent quality that is typical of a Jeep. Glides through Florida sugar sand like its on asphalt and leaps right out of a 2WD hole.

love the size and get up, but a hemi would be just right. The front windows suck water off windshield constantly annoying b/c true jeepers role with windows down, and in Washington state thats a real issue. Try the wind tunnel with water next time. -WJ FARLEY-

I got a great deal on my 97 Grand Cherokee Limited and I love it! I have owned Subarus for the last 15 years in Alaska, but I am enjoying my Jeep even more. Goes great in snow and ice with no studs. Love the stereo and options galore. Has 97000 miles and my mechanic has found no mechanical problems. I still have to get the drivers heated seat fixed, power not getting there. I will keep this one until it dies, then get another.

  • Very disappointed Jeep owner - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep and my first American car. What a disappointment. The car is always giving me problem. Just recently at 27K miles the transmission went. Then again at 36K miles and within a year of the transmission some circuit board that controls the transmission blows. Then itÂ’s the squeaky wheel which will cost me $800 to fix. The car is falling apart and it only has 36K miles and 4.5 years old. BE AWARE AND DO NOT BUY A JEEP. I am trading mine for a more reliable car.

  • Does not make me jump up and down - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The vehicle is real safe. That is its best feature. I will not buy another jeep as the quality it very poor. The first problem was with the blower motor, hardly puts out any air at a low speed. I had transmission leaks that took three trips to the dealer to fix. A transmission switch went bad in the console and had to be fixed. Most recent the vehicle would not move. The traction system went crazy and made the vehicle stop. I had to shut off the traction light to get the vehicle to move. For the price of the vehicle and the problems I have had, I feel very disappointed with this jeep. I have been looking at GM products again. Looking to get rid of the jeep.

  • Glad I leased it - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Owned the car for 8 months and 3500 miles. The 8 speed transmission with the PentaStar V6 is terrible and the other Edmunds negative reviews on that transmission are 100% accurate. Upshifting between gears 1-3 is poor, and it slams into 1st gear at the downshift. Have been to the dealer many times, the software updates to transmission only last for a few days before it goes back to shifting badly.
