This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Our 5th Grand Cherokee, Grandest yet - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We just purchased a 2005 Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain Edition. For those unfamiliar with this package -- its built off the Laredo package but adds some cool stuff for a pretty low cost to the consumer. Ours has leather heated seats, adjustable foot pedals, a trailer hitch, special Jeep leather seats with Jeep logo, a CD player with Boston Acoustics sound and Sirius satellite provided free for one year, as well as an upgraded rim and off road all season tires and chrome badging to replace the plastic pieces. Ours also has the available 4.7 V8 - which I highly recommend. We had a 93, 96, 99 Laredo and a 02 Limited. The Limited was our favorite but the sticker price was not.

  • GOOD CAR - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The design of this car is ok; I have a blue one and I don’t like the black side panels. It is a wonderful ride, handles very well and takes curves great. I had the 2003 -- this one has more power and is fun to drive. The interior design baffles me, nothing matches and the gear changer looks like it belongs in a BMW or something. I’m upset that the 2003 radio told you the names of the songs on the radio and the 2005 doesnt.

I love my Jeep. They didnt allow you to brag on the Hemi as a selection, but I have the 5.7L Hemi and it is so quiet for such a power pack. I havent had any problems at all EXCEPT if you drive crazy, some of the interior pieces are already rattling, which I kind of expected from a 4X4. Love it! A+

  • Almost a year later... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

After almost a year of owning this Jeep, I an still really happy with it. The ride with the all terrain tires is good once vehicle is broken in. Forward and rearward visibility is good, with the exception of the D pillar on the passenger side. Seat comfort up front is good, plenty of cargo space...even though less than its competitors. Like the washable cargo tray, good for when camping or doing other things. Base 6 speaker stereo is good with great bass. Have almost 14,000 miles on it and no major mechanical problems, just oil changes and tire rotations. Handles great in turns and stays planted on the ground. Brakes are excellent. You can really see and feel Mercedes-Benz in this Jeep.

I bought my Jeep with 70k on it and and have driven it 5k and my fuel pump needed replaced, a shock was leaking, and my tranny just went out. Each one I had to pay $200 deductible with Chrysler. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty or id already be out like $4k! If you purchase this vehicle buy the warranty! If I were you though, look elsewhere!

  • A Jeep Thing - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 3rd Jeep: an 85 Cherokee (used),96 Grand Cherokee (new), and now this one, an 05 Grand Cherokee. I test drove several 03 and 04 GCs (used) and the new model is far better in many ways. I also owned an 04 TrailBlazer, which I promptly traded after 9 months. It was very floaty (like an old Buick). I wish I had not sold my 96 Grand Cherokee for the TB. So far, I am very happy the new GC (19,500 miles). The ride is almost car-like, but still firm. The 3.7 liter is very capable and responsive. I would only consider one of the V8s if gas was cheap or I had to tow heavy loads. I average about 18-20+ mpg, which is not bad for an SUV with AWD. The list of standard features was also pretty good.

  • My Third Grand Cherokee - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have owned the last three Jeep Grand Cherokees and can say with personal experience that the 2005 Grand Cherokee has taken the brand to new heights. So far Im averaging 19 mpg mixed driving which is pretty darn good. Overall I really like the 05 and really feel I got a lot of value for the money. A Japanese SUV comparably equipped would have cost considerably more.

  • Love the look but it has its problems. - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have to say I love the look of this Jeep. It has class and its sporty. I love the way it drives. Its smooth and I get about 23mpg on the highway but in the city it only gets about 13.5mpg so that could use some improvement. What I dont like is when I come to a stop the transmission down shifts very hard and its just annoying. Ive only had it for about 2 months and I like except for that small problem. I really wish they would have kept the old transmission instead of going with a stupid Mercedes transmission because I dont like the feel of it. I havent had other problems with it but then again I have the 100,000 mile warranty and my Jeep only has 23,000 on it so that will work.

  • 2005 Jeep GC Laredo with 4.7L V8 - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is our fourth Jeep (1997,1999, 2002) and this is the best ride of all. Tight steering, quiet, great acceleration, and very comfortable. The leather seats are slightly harder than the previous Jeep but not bad. The Boston Acoustics sound sytem has great sound. With the 28X package you get most of the options available. After having two Jeeps with the 6 cyl engine and now 2 with the V8 I strongly recommend the V8. Gas mileage is close and if you tow anything you will enjoy the V8. There really isnt anything we dont like about this Jeep. We considered moving to the Chrysler 300C because of its styling but are very happy with the 2005 JGC.

  • fun for the money - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

the jeep has had some issues, but overall the fun and satisfaction of driving it has been far beyond my expectations. i bought my 05 5.7L HEMI with 24k, have 49k now, had electrical issues with ac and the knob on the gps fell off, both replaced under warranty. Battery died at 30k. Having electrical issues with lights flashing on and off, havent had dealership look yet, only works in automatic without problems. keychains broke, cupholder in the back broke, passenger side heat vent broke, sunroof doesnt close right unless i push it along, and it still rolls back sometimes when closing, leather on drivers seat ripped. american car, i got what i paid for, gas guzzling power lo quality build
