Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Many problems at 122K - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By LP - June 14 - 1:44 pmEvery week or so, I have another problem with this car. In the past two months alone, my check engine light went on ($400 fix), my control module computer went haywire ($140 to diagnose and reprogram), my alternator died ($160 - the shop did the labor for free). Now my transmission is dying and Im selling the car at a big loss just to get rid of it. On the rare occasions it does work, it still has the infamous rear-end clunk, is way too top-heavy, and costs a ton of money in gas. If youre looking for a reliable car, look elsewhere.

4 Month Review: Still Outstanding! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By John Germani - June 13 - 11:16 amWe have owned this vehicle for 4 months now and we are very impressed. We have put 5K miles on it with no troubles. Just within the last week, the Jeep was given 5 star front driver, front passenger, front side, and rear side impact ratings! It (4x4 version) also got 4 star rollover rating which is highest of any SUV tested. Gas mileage is around 14-16 in Washington DC metro driving and 21- 24 in highway driving. I cannot complain about that. The width of the back seat is fantastic for our sons car seat and still room enough for two more adults. It rides and handles great. Very enjoyable to drive as you have a large cabin feel. Great vehicle.

LOADED LEMON - 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By BUD - June 11 - 1:00 pmI have the 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit. It has great options & most work well. The problems have been many recalls; the original tires, which were expensive wore poorly & had several flats. Since 11/12, I have only put 31000 miles. My latest problem started with a antifreeze leak, which was diagnosed as a cracked left head(hemi). Apparently this happens regularly since the heads are on national backorder. This latest fix kept me using a loaner for 5 weeks. The dealership is terrific, but the Jeep isnt. UPDATED 8/2/16 HAS HAD A FEW MORE RECALLS, MILEAGE NOW 37100, PUT NEW MICHELINS ON & THEY DONT WARE OUT AT ALL. NO AMOUNT OF SNOW, ETC. EVEN SLOW DOWN THIS VEHICLE. EXCEPT FOR THE MILEAGE, I LOVE THIS JEEP.

Flawless Vehicle Since Day One - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Loren - June 10 - 7:20 pm23k miles in the first year. Pulled a 5000 lb trailer half way across the U.S. twice. Multiple trips between Denver and Rockies thru a lot of snow and ice. Off road in Moab, UT. This vehicle has been flawless. All this and have averaged 23 mpg over the long term. Only complaint I have is when the airlift system is all the way up the shocks top out with a loud bang over any significant bump.

Consider something else - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Kirill - June 10 - 11:46 amI come from all-Japanese car background (our second family car is Honda Accord). My JGC was leased because of the terrific deal, and this is the only good thing about the Jeep ownership. I will gladly join other mad reviewers about the sluggishness of the transmission: it often "refuses" to shift gear for 4-5 seconds, unless I press the accel. pedal all the way to the floor. What a joke?! My other complaints: predatory gas consumption, weak engine for the weight of the body, cheap interior appointments, skimpy storage volume in the hatch (my friends Honda CR-V, which is a compact SUV, can fit more items in its hatch), dull doors that spring back after opening, unless one sticks out a foot.

Amazing ride but the interior isnt. - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By alan93 - June 8 - 8:41 pmI got this used a month ago and am really impressed with the style , performance, size, and fuel economy. The only thing that is mediocre is the drivers cockpit. After selling my old boxy JGC, I almost didnt feel like i had a jeep. This thing rides like a luxury SUV, quiet and smooth. It is bigger than older JGC so it kind of lumbers around corners but the power of the V6 is very impressive. I am getting an astonishing 27 mpg on hiways ( I drive about 70mph but careful to keep the speed steady ). I havent taken it in the field yet but am wondering if it will be very nimble with its hulking size and heavier weight.

great - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By dee - June 7 - 6:03 amI always liked Jeep but when the new design this year came out I had to get one. I love it, it;s comfy and roomy, just barely any trunk space but other than that its perfect.

Wouldnt Drive Anything Else - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By LippySpaz - June 6 - 2:50 amI bought my jeep about a year and a half ago. This is my second grand Cherokee (my old one was a 95) and I absolutely love it. Sometimes I cringe when it costs me close to $70 to fill up though. My car is the "roadtrip car" and weve fit 7 people (trunk too) and nobody was squished. I love the leather and the back seats are really comfortable. I havent had any problems with it, I get my oil changed on time, clean it too much, and it looks and drives brand new. This winter I used my 4wd practically every day (damn New England weather) and I never slid an inch. Awesome truck, I wouldnt drive anything else.

Jeep = Junk - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Brian A - June 4 - 10:00 amThe gas mileage (V-8) with the exception of highway cruise (about 20 mpg) is horrid, about 13.5 mpg. The front brakes suck, have been replaced 3 times in the first 27k miles. The rest of the vehicle has faired only a bit better. Stalling, transfer case binding, drivers seat loose (was told that is normal) are current issues at 31K miles. Love to drive it, it tows a trailer very well even in high crosswinds, and it is very capable off- road. My lease ends soon, glad I dont own it.
