Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

This was a good car. We trimmed out a Grand Cherokee Laredo like a Limited at much less cost and got an excellent car with wood trim, power seats and leather. We experienced no major mechanical problems in 6 years.

  • Carrier and axle bearings - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this vehicle used from dealership with 42000 mi, I noticed what appeared to me the tires singing very noisey. The salesman told me it was the tires. I put new tires on, still the noise was there. ICalled the dealership to find out the warranty was gone with the first owner. I took it to my mechanic, to find out the carrier and axle bearings were completely shot! One bearing was even warped. We were riding on a PRAYER with it being a 99 JGC & only 42000 miles with this kind of problem.Chrysler needs to be more responsible for its products they produce at such a high price.

I have had this truck for about 6 years, and yes..the HVAC doors broke once, the rotors do warp if you are rough on the truck. between me and the wife..about 30k between rotor cuts. Not too bad considering. All of the electronics are great, including the seat heaters, and the 10 disk changer. Lots of power, and has been a very reliable vehicle for us. Tows a 5000 lb boat like it isnt even there. The Quadradrive is amazing, you cant get this thing stuck!

  • My 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee and the first two passed the 200k mile mark without any major issues. I drive a lot and drive pretty hard (NE winters/construction sites). This one (04 GC Overland) is about to hit 100k miles and I replaced brakes and tires at 70k miles and a water pump at 80k. Other than an oil change (including gear and trans fluid/filter) and alignment at around 75k, it has never been back to the dealer for anything (I change my oil and filter every 6k miles). The only minor annoyances include the drivers door armrest is cracked and pinches my elbow (same thing happened to my 2002 GC Laredo) and it is a bit louder than I would like at highway speeds (70- 75mph). I will surely consider a 4th!

  • Pains me to say it.... - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

As I write this my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is in the shop for the 8th time in the 2.5 years Ive owned it. Im a low mileage driver 13000 miles in 2.5 years, which comes out to a trip to the dealer every 1625 miles for service - 4 times for the exact same reoccuring issue - absurd! I love this car, the size, handling, handling in snow, features, the amount of options I got for the money, but the reliability, sadly is just not there. Prior to getting married I was a strictly Japanese car owner, but my husband was a Jeep die hard. After driving his 02 Cherokee for a Chicago winter I decided to bite the bullet and get one of my own. Sadly this car has proven Japanese is better.

  • What are you waiting for? - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep. I drove a Commander a couple years ago while on vacation and didnt hate it, but wasnt pleased. While researching the Highlander and CX-9, I kept seeing ads regarding the all new Mercedes inspired design and amenities. A trip to the dealer convinced me that Jeep got it right this time! The styling, finish and ride are all top notch. I couldnt be happier.

  • Sold garbage V8 after 3,900 miles - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I cannot begin to tell you what a complete pile of trash this car is. Hey V8 owners, check your oil? I was burning over a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Chryslers answer? Its "normal". Are you kidding me??? Quote: "Let the engine build up some sludge and the oil burning might slow down." The transmission and drive by wire lag is completely unacceptable. A Hemi with that much HP should not get its arse handed to it from my 2005 GX470. Quote: "Thats adaptive learning for optimum fuel economy." My MPG? 13. The Radio button on the stereo would not tune to presets no matter how you touched it. Quote: "Its just sensitive, you have to live with it." Um, *expletive* you!

  • What a SUV is supposed to be! - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive tried to get stuck in several wild places with this jeep...to no avail. The 4X4 system on these is the best in the world. Wish I could have said that about my Ford explorer or should I say Exploder-the car has 12 repairs in 1 month. All of them major and over $400 each. Ouch! The vehicle just died at 60k. Not my jeep though. Ive driven it over 145,000 miles and have had to do very minor repairs. (Brakes, trans.service, belts, hoses, tires, etc) I plan to drive this car for more than 1,000,000 miles. I believe it will make it.

The 5.7 L Hemi is awesome in the performance it provides. I highly recommend spending the extra money to get the Hemi. You wont regret it.
