This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

I love this car! We had an Isuzu before this. It was great, but not enough guts to tow anything. We also have a CJ5 & 2003 Wrangler now.

This is our 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee. We owned a 1993 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (V8 w/QuadraDrive) and 2001 GC Laredo (6 cylinder). This time we got the Hemi with QuadraDrive II. We loved the 93 Wagoneer. Hated the 6 cylinder Laredo. We love the 2005 GC with Hemi. It rides like our 2001 Audi Allroad. The ride and handling is like a European sports sedan. The acceleration is awesome. The QuadraDrive II did exceptionally during the last New England snow storm. It tracked perfectly without any slippage. The traction and stability control truly enhances the QuadraDrive system--this Jeep can go anywhere. The Bluetooth link to the cell phone is a very nice feature. The navigation system works flawlessly.

Overall we are happy with our new Jeep, which is the first Jeep we have owned. The drivers seat is uncomfortable ... seems to be off balance. I am only 5 10" but my head almost hits the ceiling when driving. Back seat leg room is tight. The quality of workmanship seems to be high, although we have had warranty service on the Jeep already for a faulty airbag light (had to do with the seatbelt assembly). Gas mileage is poor ... avg is 15 but that is what we expected when we bought it (we have a 6 cylinder).

Jeep’s downfall is its build quality and paint job. Upon delivery, I had to align the front fender and hood so that the joint lines were somewhat equal. At approximately 1400 miles, the transmission developed a surge. Come to find out, the surge was due to condensate from the A/C leaking by the transmission dip stick tube. The dealer fixed that problem but created another with the starter. Back to the dealership again! On a positive note, I really love to drive this vehicle. It’s just the right size for a SUV and I feel safe.

Bought this vehicle to replace my 1999 GMC truck that I wrecked. The vehicle was still under factor warranty when I bought the car. Im getting 18-20 mph around town and 20-24 on the road. I like the design of the Jeep and the ride and for the price it was the best deal that I could find. Had to have something large enough for a family of t but still got decent MPH.

  • Thi CAR SUCKS! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This car is a pile of Sh**! I have had so much electrical problems on this car that i dont even know what to do anymore. Spent so much $ at the STEALERSHIP and still has problems. The dealership loves it when you bring your car in. All they do is plug in the scanning device, read the error code, and tell you how much its gonna cost to replace the part. The error code might not even be the main problem. Ive seen it when error codes start changing after you replace the part that it told you to. Then your down $2-3000s and the problems not even fixed. There could be some kind of computer error and its just punching out random codes. JEEP SUCKS and STEALERSHIP SUCKS! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a bought a brand new 96 and had no problems with it, so i decided to upgrade bought this Jeep after bringing it home water pump started going out took it back then after that air bag light kept going off and now I keep having dry starts, The inline 6 motor they had was great, thats why they changed them into regular motors so that they would break down easier, never again will I buy a jeep.

  • This is my 5th Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 5th Jeep, and they get better with every model I buy. However, the drivers seat in this 2005 model is not comfortable for ladies with short legs (I have to push the seat all the way up to the dash board to reach the gas pedal, and that makes it uncomfortable when moving my foot from pedal to brakes, etc.). Gas mileage is great (26 miles a gallon consistently). Three of my previous Jeeps are still in the family (so to speak) and running good with over 200,000 miles on them.

  • Best car I have ever owned - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am the original owner of my Jeep which now has 180,000 miles on it. It is my third Jeep. As an outside salesman I have driven over 1,000,000 miles in the past 30 years. And this is the most durable car I have ever driven. Besides still having the original brake pads with 40% of their life left, the only "repairs" so far have been a water pump, EGR valve and throttle position sensor. The 3 items were done at 170,000 miles. It took 60,000 miles just to break in the motor which uses not a drop of oil between regular oil changes every 5-6,000 miles. My car has every available option and NOT one thing has malfunctioned in 180,000 miles. You just cant go wrong with this car.

Excellent on road and off road ride. Interior design excellent, but a bit too much hard plastic on the dash. The console armrest should be leather, with the seats. But love the vehicle.
