Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Overall, its a nice looking SUV. The leather seats are quite comfortable. The stereo system is great. The problem is Ive had it in the shop too many times for different things. Brakes, motor in heated mirror went out, one of the speakers stopped working, etc.

Bought vehicle for wife and family, before family grew too big. Wife loved the car. Drove great on the highway. No reliability issues while we owned the vehicle.

A great vehicle. My father bought this Jeep new in late 1993 and sold it to me in 1997. The 4 litre straight six has been a rock. It has the usual "piston slap", but all that Ive done in 14 years is a new water pump and fuel pump. I stay ahead on things like the fuel filter and other tune up items. The Jeep has rewarded me handsomely for it. I towed an overloaded 2 axle u-haul trailer across the country and threw a wheel bearing that led to a shredded axle, but that was my own fault. The Jeep still got 13 mpg that trip. I have loaded it with 1000 lbs + too many times to count. It towed my boat like a champ too. I have really abused it over the years but it still cleans up nice

  • Love it and hate it.... - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Although I like the design, ride and comfort, the quality is severely lacking. This is my 2nd Jeep in a few years. I was really hoping they got it right this time. Cons: 1. Uconnect system has impressive specs, but doesnt work as designed. Had my radio replaced once due to system crashes, poor radio receptions am/fm/sat, nav issues, the list goes on. I am a software engineer and it is inconceivable to me that Chrysler would release such a buggy system without comprehensive testing. 2. Transmission is better than my 2011 JGC, but at lower speeds and gears is a real clunker. Its scary some of the sounds it makes. Im really apprehensive about it breaking down one of these days.

had to replace rotors 3x dealer didnt want to pay any as I was at 12,500 mi. first time and said only covered up to 12K. Spent about 1300$ of my own money to fix brakes and only last about 3 months then need to recut and replace pads or rotors.

I love my JGC 75th Edition.. Its black with bronze... it is beautiful. My only complaint is the start/stop feature. I dislike it! I wish there was a way to disable it until I want it, not the other way around. If I had my druthers, I wish that LED lights came standard on this vehicle; Especially since it is a Special Edition. Love the handling, ride and get up and go of this vehicle. It is definitely a head turner.

The Jeep left me stranded three times in three years. Electrical problems abound. The transmission was clunky and skipped, and the dealer couldnt repair it. The sunroof often failed to close or open; getting stuck in whichever position it was in. The air conditioning system was unable to cool the vehicle in Atlanta Summer weather. Customer Service is virtually non- existent. Dont recommend Jeep.

  • The 02 sure is better than the 99 - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It looks like Jeep did something right compared to the junk 1999 I had, I couldnt pass up the 02 JGC SE because of the price, Listed for over 32k and paid 25k. So far I have no complaints like I did on the 99. One thing that stayed the same is the HORRIBLE GAS MILAGE. I average 13MPG, but what can you expect from a 4000lb vehicle with QuadraTracII

I had been dedicated to Japanese cars based on too many bad experiences with American cars. I wanted to buy American, and gave Jeep a chance based primarily on their warranty. It was a great decision. I absolutely love this car. Jeep used quality materials throughout the car, giving it a solid feel. It rides nice, and is great in the bad weather we can get in the Chicago area. The acceleration on the 6 cylinder is good, with the mileage being what I expected. I shopped for quite a while before buying this car, and looked at just about every small and mid size SUV on the market. If I had to do it all over again, I would make the same decision.
