Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Still wonderful after all these years. . - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We are on our second Limited, first on was still going since 1997 and 180k miles. Traded up to the 04 Limited V8HO, and yes, you can tell a difference in the HO. Jeep continues to make a solid vehicle and a wonderful answer to the larger SUVs, (We also have a Tahoe). We choose the Jeep for travels around Texas cause it is a lot more fun.

  • Unstoppable - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (6 cyl.) in 2011 with 162,000 miles on it to use as a work truck. Im a construction contractor and used this truck accordingly. For the price Ive paid it is the BEST money ever spent. Ive been told that the in line 6 cylinder engine is the only way to go in that it will last for 300,000 miles. It is now at 200,000+ and runs great. There is some slipping in the transmission into 3rd gear but it stops when the engine is warm. I plan on driving it till it goes and will replace with another. It is a great beat around truck for me and I love this vehicle and will likely by a 2013 Grand Cherokee with the latest body style etc...

  • Love it! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Prior to this, I owned a Jeep Wrangler. While I loved that Jeep (a V6), this baby drives itself! Of course, the V8 is rough on the gas tank, but I dont mind because I dont drive that much. Got me through a Buffalo Winter with the all-time 4x4. Comfortable for longer trips. Gas prices would have to double before I would even consider trading it in!

  • Great Tow Vehicle!! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is a great vehicle. I use it to tow a small, enclosed, car tailer(about 5500 lbs loaded weight). Has plenty of power on all but the absolute steepest conditions. The overdrive lockout button is very handy when towing. Metallic flecks in the black paint show fantastic in the bright sunlight. The interior is very comfortable and easy to live with on extended trips. Lots of cargo room with rear seats folded down. Headlights/Foglights do a great job. Steering wheel mounted Audio controls have got me really spoiled. Get a lot of comments on the Chrome 17" Wheels.

Rides GREAT, lots of extras that are standard. Wonderful design and build. Great power from a 3.7L V6! 4X4 model is a "all-time" making the fuel economy TERRIBLE. In a day of $3 a gallon fuel, this is a BAD "gas guzzler".

Jeep really has it down. This vehicle has got to be one of the best ones out there. Ive already taken it off roading and it conquered the territory like a champ.

  • AMERICAN MADE JUNK - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought this after my 98 Camry got totaled in an ice storm. Thought I was upgrading...boy, was I wrong. Shame on me for not reading the reviews before purchasing; shame on Daimler Chrysler for poor build quality and shoddy reliability. Only owned for 6 months because repair bills kept piling up. Went to four different garages; none could figure out why the vehicle kept stalling. Replaced computer, coil pack, went through three fuel pumps...nothing solved my problem.

  • Best Car Ever...Only owned Jeeps - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

In my family we keep our cars to the end. We all have Jeeps. Mine is the oldest..1994 with 234,000 miles. Runs like a gem. When people see it, they cant believe the year and the miles! I am just starting to think about trading it in and it makes me sad! I have not had to replace engine or anything major. Water pump, Synthetic oil changes every 6,000 miles and sometimes I have to get an oil leak repaired. Best car ever. I tell everyone to buy Jeeps, they are worth it!

  • Poor Service and Reliability - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Purchased 2014 Grand Cherokee 16 months ago. Worse car ever in terms of performance (40 years of owning cars). Eight different times in shop for over a dozen problems (not counting 3 recall issues). No help from dealership GM on any front as he would not answer a call, e-mail or letter. Note that this was not a stalking but singluar contacts with no response. Went through "lemon law" arbitration which was a complete joke. Told that this level of service issues was "normal and reasonable". I guess spending 25+ hours in waiting rooms is a privlege and honor in the Jeep world. Would not recommend this auto manufacturer to anyone under any circumstance.

  • Stay Away - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought this grand Cherokee back in 1999. It turned out to be the most unreliable car I had. The dealer took it back and I will never get a dodge/Jeep again. I think the main issue was with the new 4wd system they introduced that year. It cause many drivetrain issues. Look at all the recalls for this vehicle. My Jeep had all those issues.
