Overview & Reviews
The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.
- Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
- Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

Forever Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By HappyJeeper - November 17 - 9:36 amI drive a Jeep Laredo Cherokee 05. I bought it used with 18K already on it. I have owned it 3.5 years. Other than routine maintenance, I have not had to replace one part. At 46K, I even have the original brake pads. At the last brake inspection, my trusted mechanic said I may go to 50K or beyond on them. A year ago, I was rear ended by a hit and run driver, on one of the famous Massachusetts rotaries. In a smaller, foreign car Im certain my car would have had some serious damage and I would have been sore or injured. Because, I was in my Jeep, I had no injuries and my car only had a few scratches, easily fixed with touch-up paint.

Seats! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By M. Stew - November 17 - 4:00 amThe seats are not comfortable. Water stains the seats, raindrops, sweat, anything. I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle. It has been in the shop several times for the transmission. I wish I havent bought this vehicle.

WK Fanatic - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By CEPCNC - November 14 - 9:16 amThis Jeep has been remarkable since they day I got it. Very comfortable, smooth ride on the road and even great bone stock offroad. This is a must have for all those who love Jeeps. To all those skeptical of its IFS...it is more capable than you think.

Limited Hemi - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By bradyd - November 3 - 3:44 pmLove my Jeep. Had some problems right away when we bought it. We bought the $200 deductible warranty which came in handy. Had to rebuild the rear differential and fix the cruise control wiring. Now it has the famous "Service 4 Wheel Drive System" message but not worrying about fixing that. It pulls my 16 boat like nothing and never downshits going up hills. Gets great mpg. 19 on freeway and 21 at 60 mph. Hemi is the way to go.

Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By neil - November 3 - 10:30 amNice looks, drives well, poor gas mileage, noisy on highway from whine during passing. Small interior, would be hard for a large person. Seat belts do not fit large people. Came with some factory paint defects. No service problems. Needs backup warning. This is my 3rd Jeep and it is by far the best so far.

Good Experience - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By sjordan2009 - October 20 - 2:10 pmI bought my 2005 wk new and it now has 105000 miles. Ive abused it in the snow, at the beach and on the trails. Had to replace the starter at 60k miles ($200) and the heater core at 90K miles ($1000). I plan on keeping the vehicle another 100K.

Love-Dislike relationship - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Julie - September 28 - 4:26 pmBought with 600 miles - two weeks after purchase in shop for blower motor in fan, gas cap light on, whistle in air conditioner. 1 month later - gas cap light on, still noise in a/c, wind noise from all doors, low voltage light. 2 weeks later - gas cap light on, seats badly stained from water, etc! 6 days later - check engine light on, still noise in a/c (after being repaired-ha-each time). 1 1/2 months later - seats replaced; still stain, noise still in a/c, problem with rear vent. Had surgery, so not driven for a bit. May 06 - wind noise around all doors, sway bar links bad, 4WD light on, bumper paint peeling. All have been repaired, but Jeep customer service is a joke and cant get answer on lemon status.

Drews Review - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By drew - September 20 - 5:16 amOnly a few gripes ... the transmission seems to shift awful late. When you come to an incline, you give it a little gas, and nothing. Stomp on it, and it will wake up but who wants to do that? Also, the A/C seems to be a little anemic ... our 02 Grand Cherokees was too.

please hold together - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Joe - September 18 - 7:16 pmThe limited is smooth on the road, polite off the road and comfortable inside. NAV, SAT radio and all the toys a must on long rides. Room up front is fine and has OK storage. So far the Limited is enjoyable is drive. There is nothing outstanding except for the HEMI. The kick-in response could be better. It does not respond like the BMW but the cost to power is really fine.

If you like your Jeep Service guy... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By NewJeeper - August 27 - 11:23 pmAfter 5 months of ownership here are my thoughts. Youll love this vehicle if you live near the dealership, because you will likely be visiting them often. Ive had AC problems, lots of them. AC gets stuck blowing heat if you turn the selection knob too fast. I actually had cold air blowing out one side and heat out the other. Gas mileage is terrible with this thing, TERRIBLE. The transmission shift is also horrid; you have to wait for it to catch up when shifting from reverse to drive. Good thing it has manual override, its about the only way to get the performance up to par. Other than these problems its a good vehicle and fun to drive.
