Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Great Jeep for fun and towing - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have the limited 4.7L with the towing package and air brake module. This thing pulls a 28 travel trailer like it was nothing. The trailer has the leveler bars which make it possible with this size. The motor strains some while passing up hill or really steep grades. So if you know the limits its great. Gas mileage while pulling was between 13 if you push it and 16 if you keep it around 60 to 65 mph. but straight driving highway mileage Ive gone from 18 to 25 depending on speed and wind conditions. I have everything except the 5.7 hemi and the trim package of the Overland model. The wife and I love it and are going to purchase it when the lease is up. Safety was a big factor also, solid.

  • Lots of problems - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The first 36K miles went OK with only one warranty repair. The rear bumper was replaced (It turned a greenish color!). The crappy Goodyear Wangler tires wore out prematurely and I put Michelin LTXs on. The car handles much better and with less tire noise. The problems started at about 40K. First the drivers side window broke. (The dealer told me that this is very common). Next the circuit board in both tail/brake lights burnt out and the assemblies needed to be replaced. (Once again a very common problem). Next the passenger side window motor broke and the window dropped into the door. (Another very common problem). Now the car has a vacuum leak in the brake booster. My least reliable car.

We have a 1988 Cherokee Classic, and the improvements made to the Grand Cherokee rival other boulevard SUVs. With great performance off-road, and competitive handling/performance on street driving, the Grand Chaerokee is a good buy for the money.

  • Cheap looking same old design - 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Friend bought a 2006 GC brand new that I fell in love with. It was a basic model but did have the 4x4 and towing packages. 9 years later and now that I could afford one, I bought a 2015. I wish I would have had the opportunity and had at least a two day test drive period. First of all Fiat has cheapened the exterior by eliminating the dual exhausts and adding that ugly plastic trim along the bottom. Next the Uconnect is a nightmare especially since the heated seats and other options arent controlled by a physical knob. The dash squeaks so I know as my Jeep ages these squeaks will become really annoying. The steering wheel is too thick, your hands become sore after a long drive. Even with the lumbar and other seat controls, your back is sore after two or more hours of constant driving. Cheap interior trim and my leather seats are starting to crack in the FL heat and humidity. The dealer just repaired my transmission.... others have had the same problem... and now the A/C compressor is bad. It keeps recycling every 15 seconds as if there is not enough refrigerant in the system. Anyone who is really serious about buying this model or other Chrysler Fiat models, read the Consumer Report reviews. Youll change your mind in an instant. As with all Chrysler products, their styling is stuck in the mid 2000s.

  • Highly recommend NOT buying the Jeep - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Trouble, trouble, trouble!!! This vehicle was very poorly built. Weve had nothing but trouble from the a/c, transmission and brakes. Though it was never left us stranded it has costed dearly to fix numerous times. The Jeep handles well in winter conditions only when in 4-wheel driver.

  • 2004 Bundle of FUN - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Recently purchased a 2004 Grand Cherokee Columbia Edition from a friend. It is my second jeep and is in very good condition. It drives and handles awesome and handles the trails wonderfully. In addition, Monday - Friday I commute 40 miles one way to work and love the handling and size of this vehicle. 24 MPG would be ideal on the highways as I only get 21 at 70 MPH. Upgraded to Bridgetone REVO tires and the ride and handling is much better yet! Awesome truck will never sell!

  • Its mostly been good! - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had the Jeep for 4 years and replaced the radiator and fixed the venting. The lenses on the fog lights pop off very easily. Next time youre out and about, look to see how many Jeeps are missing at least one lens. The most frustrating problem has been that the security light keeps coming on and sometimes prevents me from starting the vehicle and we cant seem to get it fixed. All in all it has been a great vehicle for us and the only one that could make it out of our neighborhood during the last big snowstorm, without even having to go into Low. Im now trying to sell it but having a hard time because of the low MPG and high gas prices.

fuel pump-transmission-brakes are the worst in the market, I will not buy Jeep anymore, this is my 4 jeep in my life

  • Worth the money - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Current GC is my second, owned a 93 first. Love the extra power from the I- 6. Reliable car. Get upset when I hear others talk bad about Jeep. Other than usual wear and tear, I have been to the garage less than anyone I know. GC doesnt like to run at 105 MPH on the Autobahn, but it will still maintain the pace for hours at a time. Love the looks when passing the Germans in their Audis, speed is not always about the vehicles performance. Love it in the snow, passing the BMWs on the hills. On my second set of brakes at 80,000, not too bad!!!
