Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

It is very dependable and easy to get in and out of. The tail gate is easy to open for groceries and etc.

  • Love/Hate Relationship - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought my Jeep about a year and a half ago. Before that had a 1998 grand. It was such a great car. Got over 300k miles on it before someone totaled it. But My 2006 Jeep is a good car. I love the look of the car, the hard lines and the awesome grille. Fun to drive, and the seats are so comfortable. But I do have mixed feelings about the jeep. I have all sorts of electrical problems. My dash lights flash constantly and my NAV stopped working. Dealer said it was the body control module that needs to be replaced. ($1,200)!!! Makes a grinding noise when I turn sharp in the parking lot. Have no idea what that is. And the thirsty hemi puts a dent in my wallet every time I fill up.

  • Problems - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Im having problems with my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The power windows dont work and the interior lights wont go off when headlights are on. It doesnt even seem like my 4 wheel drive even works. My mirrors wont work, everything is powered. I had a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Now that was a beautiful suv! Until a tree falls on it and totals it.I love Jeep but not sure about these problems. It may even be the dealships fault. Who knows.....

  • Huge Improvement - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is our 3rd Grand Cherokee that weve leased. This 2006 Jeep is a huge improvement from our 1997 and 2000 Grand Cherokees. My kids said that our new Jeep rides better then my 2005 Nissan Maxima, which I only drive on nice days. Big improvement on engine and transmission, however the 3.7 liter is a bit sluggish around hilly areas. The handling is also greatly improved. No more leaning when going through the corners.

  • Only reliable during the test drive... - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland is my third - and last - Jeep. While none of my Jeeps have been models of reliability, my 2014 Overland is by far the least reliable. Problems with the electronics started literally the day after I got it off the lot. Issues escalated to highway stalling, not starting, blank screens, etc. would leave it with the dealer for multiple days only to have the software updated and nothing repaired. As I write this it is in the shop for its fifth time, at least this time they did some real work. Replaced the water pump, crank shaft positioning sensor, blind spot sensor, etc. the car only has 25k miles! For a 50k vehicle the issues and dealer service are way below expectations. Its a great car to look at inside and out, but at only 25k miles I plan to take a huge loss and trade it in for a subaru outback today. Bye Jeep.

  • V8 Ltd. Best SUV - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive been in other SUVs and trucks and nothing has been like this vehicle. I have truly enjoyed driving this SUV for the past several years and not had any major repairs or constant worries like you would have with other high mileage vehicles. I purchased the vehicle at 95K miles and in 3 years have added another 60K miles.

  • TERRIBLE STEERING & BAD REAR-END - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

AS AN EX-JEEP LOVER....YPU PEOPLE WHO RAVE ABOUT IT NEED TO DRIVE IT ON LONG TRIPS....THE STEERING HAS WAY TOO MUCH DRIFT IN IT...AND IVE OWNED FOUR PREVIOUS JEEPS...AFTER 3 WEEKS FROM PURCHASE...IVE HAD TO TAKE IT ON 6 TRIPS FROM FLORIDA TO ILLINOIS...U NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FALLING ASLEEP..THE STEERING KEEPS IT ALL OVER THE ROAD. REAR-END WHINES UNBELIEVABLY...HAD IT REPLACED AT 3,000 MILES,,,STILL NO IMPROVEMENT...BUT STILL..THE STEERING IS A SAFETY HAZARD...U ONLY NOTICE IT ON LONG TRIPS...STEERING OK FOR IN TOWN DRIVING...IM ALREADY LOOKING AT THE KIA SORENTO....IF OTHERS HAVE THE STEERING PROBLEM PLEASE E-MAIL ME BJS382@AOL.COM

  • BA-A-AD BRAKES - GOOD LOOKS - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I love the looks of the car. I am happy with the comfort level and the room and the safety of 4WD. I am most decidedly NOT happy with brake rotors that warp even before pads need to be replaced!! I mean, what is up with that?? All in all I would NOT buy another Jeep just because of the brakes.

  • WOW! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This SUV is a blast! Sold my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee after 165K, which only had minor issues. 2004 model has a more comfortable ride than my older one. V8 offers a lot of power off the line or merging into highway trafic. Youll be in the fast lane before you know it. I was shocked the first time I looked down at the speedometer and saw 80, thought I was doing 65. The Special Addition comes with all the bells and wistles of the Limited at a lower price point.

  • Good vehicle, a few problems. - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought mine for a price that couldnt be refused. Paint seems to be excellent by American car standards or anyone elses. Wasnt garaged for the past six years, but it looks like new for the most part. Exhaust manifold and bumpers were cracked, but replacement wasnt costly or difficult. (Bought replacements online.) Excellent stereo speakers. (factory high-end option) A minor oil leak that I can live with. Hood release wouldnt. All minor stuff. Anybody who complains about the cost associated with the GCs typical problems (radiator, manifold, AC evaporator, transfer case) never owned a Mercedes.
