This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

Only had for about 6 weeks, but am very happy with it. Fuel economy is slightly less than advertised, but almost all are. GPS system works great but they do not include the latest version of the software, you have to pay an additional $150. You do not know what version you are getting, mine was a couple of revisions old.

  • Its all good but the gas mileage - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Great car - a step above the 2003 that we had. The Nav system is far better than one in a 2002 BMW and overall the new Jeep is to be desired. The challenge is in the gas mileage - its really low, especially compared to our prior 2003 Jeep that was a 6; this is an 8 and it really goes through gas. Otherwise Im glad we got it. Hmmm, wonder what the new 06 is like?

I traded in an 01 G. Cherokee that I loved for the 05. I was drawn in by the new design, smooth test ride, AWD and price. Plenty to like about new design, but not enough to overcome the problems. Had immediate problems with vehicle not starting twice. Computer modules were recalibrated after vehicle spent several days back at dealership. Problem was solved, but I have since brought it back for a recurring acceleration / transmission hesitation problem, particularly in low gears. Computer was "reset" again, but problem persists. Hesitation at slow speeds is just plain annoying. Vehicle seems to need to think about downshifting / accelerating for a second before doing it.

Oh my, where do I start. So many things gone wrong, parts melting, 4 WD drive system had to be completely replaced, drive shaft when 3 weeks in possession, etc...etc...etc.. it doesnt stop. I kept the car this long just because I looooovve driving it, but I sure can do without all the repairs. I put up with it under warranty, but that is over with. Ive had to invest thousands in to my Jeep this year, of course after the 100,000 mile warranty ran out, figures. I would love to trade it in for another one just like it, but all the troubles I had with it scares me to buy another Jeep again, or any other Chrysler product.

This car is amazing... when its working right. Ive had so many problems, cracked axle (seriously), new tires at like 50,000 miles, transmission computer glitches, had to replace the stereo system, new shocks, and now the instrument cluster is the latest. Ive put way more money into this car than it ever was worth. And I love it, taking it off road was awesome, but I was always freaked out that something would happen to it, almost too much to enjoy it. Honestly I cant wait to trade it in for something more reliable.

  • Best Jeep ever - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

After having 5 Grand Cherokees in the past, I feel this one is by far the best. 05 Limited, 4.7 V8. Great engine, great seats, road feel, by far the best one. I was considering a German SUV this time, but I am glad I went and gave the Gr. Cherokee a test drive. My 02 was also a 4.7 V8 but this one feels much more powerfull. You wont be sorry.

I am the proud owner of a brand new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK. Before you even step in the car you notice the sleek body lines, the cool new look, and the key/remote entry. Once inside, the new car smell hits you and your body conforms to the interior. For the left hand driver, one hand goes to the wheel, the right elbow goes for the center console, and the right hand sits on the shifter. When you begin driving, the smooth, quiet ride are immediately noticed, as well as the nonexistent wind noise. The car accelerates well, able to pass cars with ease.

  • Great Jeep, poorly built - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first brand-new vehicle. I fell in love with it the moment I test drove the class! I tested the Laredo and found an excellent deal on a Limited, so I took the better options package that come with the Limited. If youre reading this review, you already know the good points of the Limited, so Im only going to focus on the negative: 1. I have had three major leaks that needed extensive re-work of the frame welding around the tailgate. Indicative of poor welding. 2. I have had poorly installed moldings at the driver and passenger door frames; they needed re-installation. 3. Poor gas mileage. All these considered, Jeep warranty replaced and fixed all gripes quickly!

  • A good value - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The first SUV my wife and I ever bought. Of course it is neither a car or a truck. So we dont compare it to either type of vehicle. But it is comfortable, no slouch on the local tollway where one must be able to run to not be a hazard to others. Its big, uses gas at an alarming rate, but I like it. Having dropped a lot of cash for the 4x4 capabilities, rest assured there will be no blizzards in Chicago for a few years!

  • Love the 5.7 hemi! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is one smooth riding Jeep. On the street and off road or while driving on the beach it smooths out all the bumps. Acceleration of the Hemi is amazing.
