Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Jeep cant be beat - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I mean if you read about this Jeep, they make it sound like a bad car, let me tell you, I have owned all sports cars until this Jeep, and this thing can drive. It moves, handles, and brakes fine. Of course it is heavy so it dosent do it like a sports car would, but pretty close. 4X4 cant be spoken for, so unbelievable, it cant be stopped - I tried. I towed an H2 out of a mud pit, I struggled but it is WOW!!! Great car.

  • Not as quiet as I expected - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Love my 2004 Grand Cherokee except for excessive road/wind noise. The 1998 model I traded in was quieter, even after 6 years of use and 103,000 miles.

  • 1998 Laredo 4WD Just Right! - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have been driving my Jeep for over 5 years with no major problems at 78,000 miles. As some other reviewers mentioned, my main problem has been that the sway bar needing relaced twice. Definitely a weak spot, but at $100 replacement, not worth a slam. Living in Pennsylvania, I love the go anywhere capability of the Jeep. Put it in Full Time 4WD and I dont have to worry about hitting some dry pavement either. If the going gets really tough, there is always the Part Time 4WD. The best part is that Jeep has not sold-out to the button, I know that my 4WD is locked in.

  • Update since 03/02/03 on my 02 JGC - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive not had any problems since my last review. I have 39,000 miles on it now and Ive only changed brakes once, at 33,000. Still my only gripe is that the A/C is not cold enough for the Texas heat. I still plan on keeping it past my 7/100,000 warranty.

  • The perfect 4x4! - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This truck rocks! I have owned it for 6 years and never had any problems. Performance is outstanding with the v8 and the full time Quadra-Trak is by far the best on the market. Owned a Range Rover during this same period and it was the most unreliable POS compared to the Jeep (not to mention costing much more)

  • Nice to look at but terrible computer system - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I fell in love with the 2014 Grand cherokee limited. Loved the style and the features included seemed like it was well put together. Sadly that was short lived. Mechanically the car has been good but the electronic head unit is a complete nightmare constantly freezes reverse camera never works heating/cooling radio anything controlled through the head unit including navigation cant be changed when it freezes until you get out of the vehicle make sure the fob is far enough from the car for the computer to reset. 5 attempts so far to fix latest is a head unit replacement we will see

  • Biggest Mistake Ive Ever Made - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This had to be my worst car buying experience ever! Bought brand new and had nothing but trouble from the day I drove it off the lot. In and out of the shop. And dont believe their warranty lies either... read the fine print! The hood was not aligned correctly to begin with. After a couple thousand miles the brakes needed replacing and had to be replaced every 2 to 3 thousand miles. Transmission was a mess too. Resale value was the worst ever. Finally dumped this piece of junk. Dont ever buy a jeep... youll REGRET IT!!!!!

  • No Longer a Jeep Fan - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This purchase was our fourth Jeep. The first three were about perfect, and this Jeep has cured me from ever buying another. The car needed to be painted five times and had to be done by area that failed as opposed to painting the whole car at once. The computers have been unreliable, the radio failed, three of the four window actuators have failed, the condenser and evaporator and vent doors have failed, and it had fuel tank issues. The engine and tranny are good but the rest of the car falls apart around it. Nice comfortable ride but you always know its never for long. Oh, and the car leaks like a sieve when it rains. Im headed out to buy an Acura next. Good Heavens!

  • Spectacular - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchase my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in 2005 I love it it has been very reliable I can not complain, only things that really needed to be done was normal maintenance brakes, alternator etc etc. The a/c died last summer but that is to be expected for an older vehicle with over 280000 kms. I am 4 Jeep all the way!!!

  • Outstanding Automobile - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I only had 3 days to buy a car after my 1997 GrCherLtd was wrecked. This 1998 5.9 bought with 19,000 miles proved to be an outstanding purchase: condition, sound system, and appearance. Bonding with this car has been strong and quick. I modified it with front tow hook mounted trailer ball for moving all sized aircraft in and out of hangars and glider trailers, and oxygen carts. Wonderful automobile.
