Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Ive owned a 1993 Grand Wagoneer (V8) and 2001 GC Laredo (6 cylinder). The 2005 GC limited with the HEMI and QuadraDrive II is awesome. New England just had a major snow storm and this SUV drove through it without any issue. You feel very safe and would even know you were driving on snow. The ride is taut like a European sports sedan.

I have had this car for a little over a year now, and I dont have anything to complain about so far! It has been reliable, comfortable, and it always gets me where I need to go no matter the weather.

Very solid. No major problems with any larger repairs of more than $500. Good runner.

  • This is not a car - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just bought a 99JGC limited will all the fixins. I researched this vehicle and Chrysler thoroughly before purchance. this vehicle is a jeep -not a car and wont respond the best driving to work and back everyday. It is built for offroading and rides like a jeep -not a passenger car. Most of the complaints here come from ignorance of how to drive the vehicle and maintaining it . Some are lemons but folks dont seem to understand that u need to buy a honda civic to goto work and back -not an engineered quadra track 4 wheel drive off road devise. If u drive it like a car thru constant stopping and starting in urban jungle traffic u will wreck the rotors and the dual transmission.

I bought my Black on Black Leather Limited Grand Cherokee from a co- worker who bought it new. It has 108,000 miles on its 4.7 Liter V8. The co-workers husband is a Chrysler Certified Mechanic, so I really found a Diamond in the rough since the 4.7s sometimes have major problems due to lack of oil changes. I love the Jeep. People always complain about the gas mileage, well people its a V8 Suv. Its NOT a Honda or Toyota or Hyundai. And none of those cars have what a Jeep has anyway. I would definitely recommend getting one to anyone who asks, just be warned that its not a hybrid.

Overall nice looking car but reliability I really question. We have had this car in the shop twice under 30 days. The first fix was on the motherboard for the fuel economy variable value timing for the v8. Dealer stated this was a known problem in manufacturing and was replaced. Fixed seemed to work. 2. Software in the car appears flawed, constant blue tooth conductivity issues, key less Enter-N-Go works off/on,key sensor loses key inside car so alarm will go off driving down the highway, button to lock car on exterior will work off and on,keys were inside car and car locked. Currently in the shop fixing these problems.

I got mine in 99 with about 60k on it. Mine is equipped with the 5.9 and the quadradrive, full time 4 wheel drive. this thing is your foul weather friend and nearly unstoppable. It just rolled 290,000 last weekend and with regular maintenance there is another 200k left in it. I still have the factory water pump factory fuel pump and original transfer case. Change your fluids my friends. It has never let me down and really never broke except for the A/C in 04 but who cares. I go off road and play in the mud so I beat this old thing. I tow with it including one 250 mile trip with a 8000 pound trailer way way over the weight limit and aside from poor breaking no heat issues. well worth it.

  • Great Driving Experience - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Far and away the most enjoyable and useful car to drive that I have had. (Ive had many) Very smooth, quiet and maneuverable, and sure footed; perfect for the Western N.Y. snow belt in which I reside. I did have a vibration in the drive train which was remedied under warranty by replacing the front drive shaft The dealership was very obliging and helpful. Got over 20 MPG on a recent 8500 mile road trip road around the country. While other reviewers have expressed some negative comments about their Grand Cherokee my experience has been entirely positive.

  • DONT DO IT!! - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was lured into buying American on this car. Seduced by the great styling, comfortable ride, and great road manners. Plus, made in the USA! What could be better? Traded my aged BMW that Id bought new ten years previously (no major issues), and entered into 3.5 years of automotive purgatory. This is the worst car Ive ever owned. Even beats out my wifes old 99 Audi A4. New engine at 9k miles, three headlights at $350 each, new entertainment system, back up camera replaced twice, $3000 wiring harness "rusted through", and on, and on. Two things convinced me to get rid of this car...driving along at 70mph on my way to work the truck just stopped running. Completely shut off. After I changed my underwear, I was able to make it to work. Second, I had to drain GALLONS of water out of my floorpans that just collected there for no apparent reason. Loved the dealer, but NEVER will buy a Jeep again. Traded it in on a Lexus. Very happy now. Be warned on this one.
