Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

2008 Jeep GC Laredo - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By William Tell - July 31 - 3:56 pmThis is the third Jeep I have owned. They interior is getting smaller and cramped in the back seat. Too many cavities around the shifter/console area. I have a 6 cyl and it is loud when starting off. No under the hood light as on other similar Jeeps I have owned and I get better gas mileage from my 2001 Jeep. The tach display has been moved to the left which is awkward. For a vehicle this expensive I rate it average.

Bad Transmissions - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Cristine Lewis - July 31 - 8:46 amPurchased this Jeep for Ohio Winters and comfort. Purchased with 53K miles. After one year of driving at 69K miles tranny was shot. Noticed vehicle slightly surging on inclines (was tranny slipping). Very upset with 12 pymts rebuild tranny cost $3K. Towed it back to dealer and traded on a 2010 Jeep Patriot. Do not buy this car! Hope our luck changes for the better at a healthy cost.

1996 jeep - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By T-daddy - July 27 - 4:06 amMy 1996 jeep has been great overall. I have had to replace the water pump, the oil pump, the alternator, the radiator, and the brakes/tires/shocks. In addition, I had to replace the catalytic converter. Otherwise the jeep is rock solid other than minor issues. It is great in the rain and snow.

Very poor reliability - 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By morzh - July 26 - 11:26 pmWell, I have been a Jeep fan for a long time. Owned a Cherokee before, was a decent car. I knew the reliability reputation full well and bought this GC against my better judgement. Lets say, I have paid. Right after 4 years of very mild driving and not even 40K on odometer things started happening. The speed sensor. $1000. The starter. $800. A pressure sensor leaking air. $90. Today - another pressure sensor leaking air (the car will be 6 years old this August). $150. A $150 tire flat fix. No more Chrysler products for me.

OK for an American car - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Cindy - July 23 - 3:53 amI got a really good deal on this or I probably would have gotten something nicer. I wanted 4 wheel drive and an SUV and I got this one at a good deal. Im used to imports so I would have to say that overall, Im not really happy with it. Wind noise, inferior sound system, chipmunk noises in the dash, not enough power. But if you dont mind buying American, its a good value and nicer than the Fords and Chevys.

Transmission slip when cold @ 40k miles - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By z2im - July 19 - 10:00 amGrand Cherokee Limited has great curb appeal and interior comforts. The gas economy is okay for full size SUV. Bought (Aug 2002) as a used (off-lease vehicle) with ~35k miles. Transmission began to slip when vehicle was cold at ~40k miles (after end of 3 year/36k drive train warranty). Estimates of $1200-1500 to rebuild transmission. Told that this is a design problem in 1999 Grand Cherokee. Transm seals are rigid when cold and allow fluid to seep by, causing slippage. Called Chrysler about recall and/or some help w/ cost of repairs with no satisfaction. If purchasing a used Grand Cherokee, buy an extended power train warranty. It will be a good investment.

Issues - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By kam06 - July 17 - 7:03 pmI have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. I love it, but lately it spends more time in the shop than at my house. I have not had any radio issues, but I have had transmission issues that Jeep does not seem to know how to fix. I have a little over 8000 miles and currently it is in the shop with the mechanics trying to figure out how to put my transmission back together. We spent a lot of money on this car so we would not have these issues. I would say to anyone looking at this vehicle.....wait until they work out all the issues with this transmission before you invest in this Jeep.
